The objective of the NADP is to identify the best talent through their clubs, competition and state coaches to deliver them into the National Pathway by providing expert and intensive coaching to identified athletes.
To be selected into the NADP, an athlete will have shown commitment to become a world class rider, commitment to training constantly and effectively as well as being highly organised and an effective communicator. All of which will be demonstrated through results in the Champbikx series and selection recommendations from the National BMX Selection Committee.
NADP Coach Sharon Willoughby began coaching young riders at club level before preparing riders for National competitions then establishing a High Performance unit for BMX South Australia.
"I became involved in BMX because of my two sons - Matthew and Sam (currently UCI ranked #5) - and of my desire to become involved in their interests."
"I soon realised there was a huge need for coaches hence my decision to complete the Level 1 Coaching Course and help out my local club, Happy Valley (SA)".
Willoughby was appointed coach of the National Talent Identification program in January after applying her coaching skills by readying South Australian riders through creating the South Australian High Performance Team.
"I am passionate about developing young athletes in sport and believe that many important life lessons can be taught and learnt through participating in sport at all levels," she said. "My aim is to develop young riders to be the best and most complete athlete possible while promoting the growing sport of BMX."
Athletes from the 2010/2011 NTID Program demonstrated the worth of the development program at the 2011 World Championships held in Copenhagen in July. A squad of 7 riders attended under the banner of the NTID program while team member Bodi Turner was selected to travel with the Australian High Performance Team for the championships as an Elite Junior rider.
Team Coach, Sharon Willoughby said, "it is clear to see development of riders in the 14-16 years age groups is essential for success in the Elite years."
Jade Parker , who was competing in her third World Championship with world placings of 8th and then 3rd at previous championships, won her race in the Girls 15 Years. Tristyn Kronk who rode in the Boys 15 Years competed in his first international race at the World Championships by riding strongly in the preliminary races to make the semi-finals.
That success was consistent across the team with Sarah Harvey and Rachel Jones, both Girls 16 Years making the semifinals with Sarah then finishing 3rd in the Cruiser class a day later, while Annaliese Rokov (Girls 14 Years) also podiumed with 2nd place in the Cruiser Class.
Kerrod Connors finished as a quarter finalist in the Boys 16 Years race after locking arms with another rider to slip a place from making the semi-finals. In the Junior Elite Men, both Bodi Turner and Corey Frieswyk competed as first time racers in that category. Corey finished as a quarter finalist while Bodi placed 6th in the final after handling the pressure of a 5th placed time trial position.
The 2011/2012 NADP team consists of 1 male and 1 female rider aged 14 and 2 male, 2 female for the 15 and 16 years age category.
