Winning both days in Hong Kong after my injury, which is still not 100% recovered was a big surprise for me… Last weekend I raced the Asian Championships in Hong Kong. Together with my teammate Jelle, I decided to go there because it would be my first and last change to ride an international race before the first UCI World Cup In Chula Vista, USA.
The races in Hong Kong were also important to get some extra points for our country, because Saturday was a category 3
race and Sunday category 4. Holland is in 5th position in the World ranking for the Olympics with the men’s, which means we can send the max of 3 guys to the Olympics. So we like to stay in the top 5 in that ranking.

It’s been tough the last couple of weeks with all the training, physiotherapy and travelling, but it paid off in Hong Kong. I didn’t expect too much, because it was my first race since my wrist injury and I’m just back on the track for like 1 month. Anyway, my wrist holds up pretty good, because I was able to win all my races both days in an international field of riders. Sometimes the wrist hurts when I’m not riding 90% smooth, but that’s something I have to get used to, because the wrist will never get 100% again. Jelle and I took some important points for our country and they crowned me as the 2012 Asian Champion, which is a cool thing to say I think. Check the final race from Saturday in
this video.
It’s been a great experience to race in Hong Kong and de organisation did a great job for their first ever BMX race!
The upcoming weeks the Dutch National Team and I are getting ready for the first UCI BMX Supercross in Chula Vista, USA. Hopefully the weather will be good, so we can ride our SX track at Papendal, which is rebuild!
