prior to the event. This was the first time that a World Cup has had paved brick corners and also my first experience of racing on them. Generally the turns are bitumen so visually for me seeing bricks was the only difference.
Coming off a Time Trial win at the USA World Cup two weeks ago I had my sights set on another Time Trial win. I came across the line very satisfied making minimal mistakes to win my 2nd Time Trial World Cup win of the year. It was great to win but I really wanted to transfer being the fastest girl around the track into racing and my goal was to be on the podium.
Throughout the day there were highs and lows but I managed to channel all of my energy into the final. I had a good start coming out of lane 6 and found myself left high on the first turn dropping back to 7th position. I quickly spotted a gap in the pack and went for it down the second straight avoiding a crash and passing 5 girls moving into 2 position in the 2nd turn with half the track to go. I had so much adrenaline and was so amped and in the zone that I managed to find another gear inside of me that flicked up a level and allowed me to reel in about 10 meters and pass Magalie Pottier from France in a time of 36.954 seconds winning my first ever BMX Supercross World Cup final. Crossing the line I was overwhelmed with emotions I was so excited and I haven’t felt that feeling since winning my first Mountain Bike World Championship title in 2009.
On a whole, Australia had an amazing weekend with 3 males and 2 females in the finals and Sam Willoughby placing 2nd. This result moves me into equal 1st in the BMX Supercross World Cup rankings and possibly first in the Overall World Rankings. Next stop back to America for an ABA UCI BMX world ranking points race this weekend coming.
