Racing was a lot of fun for me when I could hang, but as soon as things got serious, and it got harder to make podiums or finals, it was time to do something else to have fun. Jumping during a race was it, but the weekend track managers weren't fond of it. Getting disqualified because of show boating during the race was the moment to quit racing and move on to freestyle. But at the upcoming RedBull R.Evolution race in Berlin, the show boating will be rewarded by cash money!
During the Main Event, in each of the heats, 3 judges will award a “Best Trick” prize money award. The tricks can only be excuted on certain jumps (2nd straight and Finish Line Jump). Note, riders are not obliged to do freestyle tricks, this is merely a bonus $$ feature. The trick money goes like this: Best Trick Per Heat in the 1/8 Finals gets rewarded with € 150.00 for the best trick winner per hear. Total trick prize money during the 1/8 finals: € 3,600.00. During the
1/4 Finals € 100.00 will be rewared to the rider who does the best trick in the quarter finals. Total budget: € 400.00. Also during the 1/2 Finals, the rider with the best jump will be rewarded € 100.00 Euros. Total budget for the semis: € 200.00. And whoever does the best jump during the final (winning or not) will get € 200.00. It might be worth doing a no-hander over the finish line for an extra bonus of € 200.00!
Total budget for showboating during the R.Evolution race is € 4,400.00! That's what I'm talking about.
But, racers are racers and once they're lining up on the gate, for most it's getting across that finish line in first. The prize money ain't too bad either:
