It’s been a while since my last update, but I’m back… First I’d like to tell something about my short vacation in Curacao. They asked me, Robin and Maliek to come there and do some BMX clinics. Before the clinics started we could enjoy ourselves doing things like, scuba diving, swimming with dolphins, under water with the submarine, I even did some workouts at the gym, etc. By that time I had to be careful with my shoulder off course, so unfortunately I couldn’t ride my bike during the clinics. Overall I had an amazing time in Curacao and
we could teach those kids some new skills, so it was great and I would like to go back next year.
Back home after Curacao I started a heavy rehabilitation for my shoulder and I tried to stay as fit as possible before we started the new training program with the Dutch National Team. After 3 months my shoulder healed up pretty good. I can do whatever I want, but I’m just missing some power and flexibility.
Luckily my mom is doing better than a few weeks ago. She had her ups and downs, but after a throat surgery where they amputated some scar tissue, she’s able to breath normally and even talks. It’s been over 5 months that we didn’t hear her voice, so now it’s much easier to understand her. This Monday my mom left the Intensive Care unit after almost 6 months… December 4th she will go to a rehabilitation centre for a long way to recover. Hopefully they can help her to get stronger, so she can move herself…
The last few weeks I’ve been racing my pitbike just for fun. It’s cool to have no big pressure on my shoulders, but I still want to win. I don’t have enough skills to win, but getting 12th, 11th and 10th place was good for me, especially for my mind after everything that happened the last few months!
Now I’m back in training with the Dutch National Team. The program is to get fit and stronger again, so this period will get really heavy. This Saturday, we’re travelling to the US for a 3-week training camp in California.
Big news is also our new team sponsors. The Dutch National Team signed a 4-year contract with (Dutch) bike sponsor Meybo and BOX Components for all the parts. I’m really happy to have these new sponsors on board and I’d like to say thanks to Redline, Shimano, Pro, Elevn, Sun Ringlé, and Insight for there great support over the years!
