Race Report Euro rounds in Germany/ Knee surgery update: Back on the bike after a knee surgery…

A few days after the UCI BMX Supercross in Argentina I travelled to Weiterstadt, Germany for round 5&6 of the European Championship. I have some good memories in Weiterstadt, winning both rounds in 2010, so I was hoping to do the same 2 weeks ago. Unfortunately I don’t remember much of this race, because I crashed pretty hard in Sunday practice and got a concussion. No racing for me after that crash, but on Saturday I made it to the semi final. I had some good racing going on with the Olympic Champ “Strombergs”, but I felt tired on Saturday because of the jetlag from Argentina I think. I was not happy with my semi final, so I hoped to feel better the next day and take revenge… But that didn’t go as planned because of the crash.
Afterwards people say I was talking all kind of crap and I didn’t remember my knee surgery that was planned 2 days later. Eventually I remembered I had to do surgery, but from Sunday (when I crashed) I still don’t remember much!
Anyway, on Tuesday May 21 my knee surgery was on the agenda. The doctor cut away 2cm of my meniscus, because it was loose and giving pain. Normally it takes about 3 weeks to recover after this kind of surgery. I was back on the bmx bike after 1 week of physiotherapy. The knee was still sensitive and a little stiff, but I was able to do some easy sprints.
It’s been 12 days now after surgery. I rode the Supercross track at Papendal a couple of times and the knee is feeling okay. I’m stoked that my knee is healing so fast. Looking forward to race the UCI BMX Supercross (World Cup) round 3 at Papendal in 2 weeks! Be there at June 15&16!
