Everybody was surprised about the results at the Worlds in NZ. I rode the most crazy track at the Red Bull Revolution in Berlin and did some other fun stuff… Everybody had their doubts about the Worlds Championship track in Auckland, New Zealand, because the surface of the arena was too small for a full BMX Supercross track The organisation did the best they can to make it work, unfortunately a lot of crashes happened in the Junior and Elite Men classes.
My body felt okay in New Zealand. No big injuries like other years, so I was looking to get some good results. Practice didn’t feel so smooth at the beginning, cause I had some issues to get used to this small indoor track. Just before time trials I had everything under control.
Because the track was so small, Time Trials were really close. I did a full lap in 23,3 sec that gave me 7th place in TT. Racing was a whole different story. I was in third position in my 1/8 final until a Latvian guys crashed into me in the last turn.
We crashed together and that was it for me. Not only me went out to soon, also other big names and even the Olympic Champ. Way too many crashes happened because the track was too tight for Junior and Elite riders!
Besides the disappointing racing result I had a really nice time in NZ. I even did a bungee jump from the Harbour Bridge, which was a special experience.
After the Worlds I had 2 weeks off. I went to my girlfriend in Denmark to help her out with her new apartment. I could not stay very long, because one week later I had to go to Berlin for the Red Bull Revolution.
The Red Bull Revolution was a crazy experience. All the riders including me were there without coaches. It was a really chill event, nice vibe, good food and a big track. To be honest, I was afraid to ride the track the first few times. But after a few hours practice I had everything under control.
Over 5000 fans came out to Berlin to cheer us on. I got some hole shots in my motos, but it was different than normal racing. I went out in the quarterfinal because I couldn’t hold my speed riding a defensive line in the last corner. Overall I had a nice time and I hope to get invited next year again.
The last few weeks I’ve been training hard and looking for a new apartment. Because I need a new place to stay and we need to pay the last World Cup in Chula Vista by ourselves this year, I decided not to go to the USA. It was a though decision, but it’s better for my future! I will ride the last few races in Belgium, Holland and 1 in Curacao because I’m invited to race and do a training clinic there like last year.
