The world's best BMX racers will gather at the Olympic Training Centre in Chula Vista, California this weekend for the fourth and final round of the 2013 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup Series. 150 riders from 25 countries will start the time trials qualifications that take place on Friday 27 September 2013. The BMX Supercross World Cup main event will take place on Saturday 28 September. After the earlier stops in South America and Europe the UCI BMX Supercross is coming home to this Southern California location to conclude the 2013 season. This Olympic training centre is a full service location for US Olympic hopefuls in BMX with three BMX tracks including a standard BMX track, replica of the 2008 Beijing Olympic track as well as the competition site for this weekend which is similar to the London Olympic track.
Dutch rider
Jelle Van Gorkom will go into the final round as the leader in the men's overall standing. With first, second, and tenth place finishes in the first three rounds, Van Gorkom has
collected 589 points and holds just a slight lead over American
Connor Fields who is currently ranked second with 575 points after securing first, third, and eleventh place finishes earlier in the season.
In women's racing, spectators will definitely want to keep an eye on U.S. rider
Arielle Martin who is second in the standings with 523 points. The American has a second-place and two sixth-place finishes going into the final round on her home track. Arielle has announced that this will be her last race so the home crowd will certainly be behind her.
Shanaze Reade (GBR) is leading the 2013 Supercross ranking but unfortunately the British rider is out with an injury. Other favourites to watch who are competing are
Laura Smulders (NED) and Olympic Champion
Mariana Pajon (COL) who will head to Chula Vista ranked fourth and third respectively.
There will be a full live webcast from all days of competition on bmxlive.tv. In addition there will be the highlight show “Lane 1 – Inside BMX Supercross”, that will air in US on FOX SPORTS NETWORK and around the world in more than 40 countries.
