BMX cyclist Connor Fields (Henderson, Nev./Chase BMX) finished third in the United States Olympic Committee's September Athlete of the Month voting. Fields wrapped up the overall title as the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup champion on Saturday, Sept. 28 at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif. He won Friday's time trial superfinal before placing third in Saturday's Supercross final. The 21-year-old Fields won his quarterfinal and semifinal to qualify for the eight-rider main, in which he placed third.
Fields won the second world cup race in Santiago del Estero after placing third in the first world cup contest in Manchester, United Kingdom. His win in Chula Vista propelled him from second into the top spot of the world cup standings.
Top performances throughout September earned paratriathlete Megan Fisher (Seattle, Wash.) and wrestler Jordan Burroughs (Sicklerville, N.J.) the U.S. Olympic Committee Athlete of the Month recognition, while the U.S. women’s eight rowing team received Team of the Month honors.
