The Subaru BMX National Championships are set to heat up the frigid weather tonight when the final round of the National Series and the Oceania Championships are run under lights at the Shepparton BMX track. The final leg of the five-round National Series is the pre-cursor to the National Championships events that will be held over the following three days to decide the Australian champions for 2014.The evening’s action begins at 520pm, is free for spectators and
will feature some of world BMX’s biggest names including 2012 Olympic silver medallist Sam Willoughby, reigning world champion Caroline Buchanan and rising stars Corey Frieswyk, Bodi Turner and Lauren Reynolds. There will also be music, live commentary and a fireworks display.
Those that can’t make it to the track can catch all the action from Thursday to Saturday online via the event’s live streaming or the free BMXA app.
Tomorrow will see riders on the track throughout the day contesting the various Challenge class national titles before the elite competitors return on Saturday for their crack at glory.
The likes of Willoughby, Buchanan, world cup silver medallist Anthony Dean and Reynolds top 2788 entries for the six-day championships. Riders range in age from two to 64 and represent clubs from all states and territories.
