They have installed a new pro gate starting system and resurfaced the start hill. Great work Coppull bmx club.
Having to miss the Saturday evening no clips race as I am out of action injured. I heard that Warren “Wozza” Bancroft beat the assembled pack of money hungry “usually clipped in” riders and took himself home a few hundred quid. Ibiza here Wozza comes! The Elite men have three finals so they have to be even fitter than your average bmx racer. Warren’s training plan consists of lying horizontally for a number of hours. Followed by a heavy session of relaxation all washed down with a bit of sleep. Honestly nothing stresses Warren; he told me he has done some sprints!!! for sure he cleans his bike but the man is so naturally talented. I shudder to think what he could achieve if he really did try!!?? Wozza won his first elite men’s final this season against Lawrence Mapp and a whole host of others. He has put himself right in the hunt for the number one Elite rider in the country with only one more round left. Go Wozza.
Lewis Hipkins getting hoisted to the top of the world by dad Chris Our man Lewis Hipkins is racing up an age group to get some competition. He is certainly getting that in the 8s. He is preparing to go to the world in Canada later this month. Making the mains consistently now against much bigger lads is a proper feat. Lewis powered to a 5th place finish in the final, with performances like this I really feel he is going to lower his current World number 7 ranking in Canada?!! Mr Jack Clarke is new to the team and a very welcome edition, Jacks from a family of racers His Grandad competes still in the Isle of Man TT classic races. His Uncle Dave ripped it up on a motorcross bike and now is bloody fast at supermoto racing. Jacks been brought up with a family of racers and it’s obviously rubbed off on him. Jack won his main event with style, power and a head down determination. Leading the points against rival Jimmy Orena it all comes down to the wire in Wales August 11-12th. My moneys on Jack!!
Bradley Minns is like a terrier (i mean that in the nicest possible way) if he is in 2nd he never lets go. I saw one of the most competitive finals I’ve ever seen in the 11/12 age group. Riding against a superfast Jake Roberts, Jake lead for half the track then left a small gap and Bradley nipped in. Jake fought back but was just piped on the line. I trained these guys in winter, so I have to shout for both!! It’s all down to the wire in Wales to see who takes home the number one spot. Oh yeah I almost forgot Bradley races cruiser class also and won by a mile. Bradley and family are now off to France to compete in the European championships, bring home the silver mate!
Charlotte Green is a very polite young lady from down in Cornwall until she gets on a bmx bike! Then she is a very tough opponent for anyone. Charlotte is taking the ladies class by storm. She has power determination and now the jumping skills have arrived! It must be something in the Cornish pasties? She was racing against girls 20 years older this weekend and still beat them all. Jumping the step up which is no mean feat, I can tell you. Charlotte has safely tucked the national number one plate in her bag. Well done Charlotte.
Katie Roberts pushing hard in 2nd place Katie Roberts had a brilliant 3rd place finish this weekend in a class which gets more competitive all the time she is consistently getting in the top 3. Kate had a number 6 on her plate last year. I reckon she is going to crack top three this time. Alex Deakin (number 2) getting in the slipstream in the junior male class Alex Deakin had a great weekend making the mains in cruiser and junior male. Alex placed 3rd in the 20” class and 2nd in the cruiser to boost his points tally. Alex will fight to the wire in Wales to gain the national number one plate. Go on my son. The Alansbmx.com/shimano dxr squad extended their points lead in the BCF team championship and with one more round to go are virtually guaranteed the number one team slot for the 2nd year. The team produced an outstanding display with 5 wins and one 2nd and two 3rd places.
