Big news on the race sponsorship front. Laura Smulders is leaving the Orange Army to start something new with Martijn Jaspers as her trainer. Here's what Laura published about it on her website: Last three years were perfect, I joined the National Team in 2011 and could prepare myself for the Olympic Games in London with the team. I made some big steps, got stronger and faster, and thats how I won the Olympic Bronze medal in London and my first World Cup. I still got stronger and faster through the years, and I’m still improving, and learned a lot! But I’m still looking for something different, something new…
I’ve thought about it for a very long time. What do I need to do to be the best version of my self in Rio de Janeiro 2016? What do I need to do to create the biggest change to get the best possible result out of it?
I need a new challenge. I’m ready for the next step. I’ve decided to

leave the National Team and to start with a new team. I’m going to make this next big step together with
Martijn Jaspers. He will be my trainer and help me to reach my goals for the next few years.
I’m happy to say that the KNWU (Dutch Cycling Federation) is totally behind us in our decision and they will support us in our next step. We are also in good contact with the NOC*NSF (Dutch Olympic Comittee). We can work together with them on the road to Rio 2016 to make the best result possible for BMX in the Netherlands.
We are still very busy with the startup and professionalizing the team but also to find new people and companies who want to support us and make it possible to reach our goals. In the next few weeks we can let you know some more, so we will keep you posted.
I want to thank
Bas de Bever for the last years. But also the national team, the staff, the sponsors, the OTC at Papendal, KNWU and NOC*NSF for their support!
