Looking Back Now:
I can’t help but to think that we had WAY more fun at the races and contests back in these days. Remember, this was in the early 90’s and nobody was worried about winning $50,000 for X-Games gold or qualifying for the Olympic BMX race team. Back in the day it was like a tradition that all the pro racers would go out on Thursday night before the ABA Grands. But now I think the tradition has turned into Powerbars for dinner, a rub down by the team masseuse, and watching video replays of practice.
Still to this day I am not sure how I have NEVER been arrested. I am sure I deserved it like 10 times over. I mean me & a bouncer were wrestling on the dance floor! And the “trick stars” Mike King & Brian Lopes were kicking the guy. Then I got up and punched him and I STILL did not get kicked out or arrested! Crazy.
Sunday nights at the ABA Grands were always a big party night as well. But on these nights, we usually brought the party back to the hotel with us. On this night, the “party” was packaged in a bike box…

When I wasn’t wrestlin’ with the local bouncers at the clubs, I was riding in the jump contests at the Friday night race at the ABA Grands. Remember how cool that race/contest used to be? A lot of the heavy hitter dirt jump/freetyle riders used to come and enter that contest. TJ Lavin, Dennis McCoy, Dave Voelker, Dave Mirra, Jay Miron, Jimmy Levan, Barspinner, Mike Griffen, Fuzzy Hall, Butcher, Mat Hoffman, The Boy, Chris Moeller, and a whole slew of other guys entered that contest back in the day. And if I remember correctly, Mat Hoffman even raced the ABA Grands one year!

I started keeping a daily journal way back in 1987 when I was only 15 years old. Back then I was a just a freshman in high school. Since then, every single freakin’ day of my life has been documented in these journals. If it happened in my life, then I wrote it down & documented it. And believe me; I’ve got some stories to tell! Looking back over the years, here is a journal entry that stands out and also my comments looking back now.
