Turner, who finished second in the most recent round in Sweden, is now ninth on the season standings and will take to the start ramp this weekend with a new sense of belief, as he targets consistent international success to fuel his Olympic dream.
“Although the result in Sweden has helped me along my Olympic journey, I know that there is still a long road ahead,” Turner said.
“Its definitely a big boost of confidence for me mentally, but it's more important to stay in the present and not the past or future.”
“I just need to focus on each race as they come and give the best effort I can to secure a spot for the Olympics, and that next race is here in Argentina. I've been training in California for the past few weeks to get myself as prepared as possible. I’m feeling good and I can’t wait to see what I can do.”
In the elite women, defending World Cup series champion Buchanan, will be motivated to improve on her current season position of fifth but will face stiff competition from crowd favourite and reigning Olympic champion Mariana Pajon, as well as current series leader Alise Post. Joining Buchanan on the start ramp will be compatriot Lauren Reynolds, who will enter the event buoyed by her third placed finish in Sweden.
Once again there will be a number of BMX Australia Development Academy athletes competing, namely Josh Callan, Corey Frieswyk, Matthew Juster and Tristyn Kronk in the elite men, with Kirsten Dellar lining up in the elite women.
Dellar in particular comes into the weeekend in fantastic form, having marginally missed out on her first World Cup final in Sweden, a performance that has drawn praise from Development Academy coach Luke Madill.
“She has really impressed me this season, but I am not at all surprised,” Madill said.
“She has been getting quicker every round, and every round she is progressing further to the point that now she is on the cusp of making a World Cup final.
“If she continues to improve the way she has, she could find herself in the big dance on Sunday.”
Other athletes in action across the weekend will be David Habicht and Tom Siinmaa in the elite men, and Leanna Curtis in the elite women.
