Criterium event and shared with me the benefits on how it was a key instrument in her preparation for the 2012 London Olympics.
In what way has it helped you preparing for the 2018 World's in Rock Hill?
Greg: It helped me day to day understand how my recovery was and letting me know how hard and intense I can train for the day.
What exactly does it measure that helps with the way BMX riders train?
Greg: It measures blood oxygenation saturation levels, meaning, it lets you know how much oxygen is in your blood. The more the better.
Do you still have your records on your iPad/iPhone?
Greg: Yes
Do you see changes in the numbers?
Greg: Yes, day to day they are different and I begin to see a pattern based upon the amount of stress I imposed.
Does the Masimo MightySat-pulse-oximeter tell you when your peak moments are?
Greg: Yes, absolutely, if you see a number above 99 it really gives you the confidence that you are recovered and can go 100% despite if you feel tired or not. You know you are recovered and at that point you have the knowledge and it gives you the mental edge to overcome any mental blocks or hesitation.
Is it nice to have a device that can actually measure your fitness so you know if the sprints have paid off?
Greg: The device is more about measuring the amount of stress or lack of recovery, so it’s helpful before you actually train.
Do serious BMX racers need one?
Greg: Absolutely, it’s a game changer if you want to know exactly what you’re physically before you train.
