organization will set a great world championship." Thus the international cycling union. BMX'er Niek Kimmann is pleased with the news: "I think it's really cool that the BMX world championships will come to Arnhem in 2021. It was very special to compete for the world title as a junior for their own audience. It is a dream to be able to do that as an elite, in 2021 at Papendal. "
Jochem Schellens, director Papendal: "This assignment feels like a crowning achievement for the excellent organization of the various World Cup competitions in recent years. We have already been named twice as the best organized BMX event and in recent years have also taken big steps through the combination with the Framed Festival. But at the same time we realize that a World Cup is 'next level'. More participants, more competition days, more visitors. A challenge that we, with the partners involved, enter into with confidence. In 2021 we will be proudly the beating heart of the BMX world."
Director of the KNWU, Margo de Vries: "The World Cup is an important moment of inspiration for young athletes to meet their heroes and see them at work. It is nice to see that Papendal is not only committed to the event itself, but also focuses on the side events. The KNWU attaches great importance to the long-term sustainability of the sport by linking top-class sport and its legacy. "
Jan Markink, Deputy Sports at the Province of Gelderland about the award: "As proud UCI Bike Region in Gelderland in recent years, we have hosted great top-wheeler events such as the start of the Giro d'Italia in 2016 and the UCI World Track Cycling Championships last spring. With the allocation of the World Cup BMX 2021 to Arnhem / Papendal, the annual UCI BMX Supercross will become a top event of size. I am very pleased with the great impetus that this World Cup Gelderland gives. But also with the plans towards 2021 that can give a huge boost to cycling in general and cycling in particular in our province."
Alderman Sport of the Municipality of Arnhem, Jan van Dellen about the arrival of the World Championship in Arnhem: "The World Cup BMX is a wonderful top sport event that we like to welcome as Arnhem. It is once again a jewel in the many sporting events that we have received as a sports city in recent years. I am already looking forward to the fight and the spectacle that we can expect at Papendal. "
Alderman of Events, Hans de Vroome: "Great that we succeeded in getting the BMX World Cup to Arnhem for 2021. This is very good news for Arnhem. The event will put our city on the map nationally and internationally and attract many visitors. Thanks to the side events, everyone can really enjoy themselves. I congratulate Papendal wholeheartedly with the allocation and wish the organization a lot of success! "
About the BMX World Championships
The BMX world championships last 5 days with a total of 4,000 BMX players, in various categories from 5 years. All races take place on the BMX track at Papendal, because of the diversity in ages and classes a second start hill of 5 meters high is realized. The races at the sports center are combined with side events in the city center of Arnhem, such as a medal plaza and an Urban Sports Week. For the organization of the World Championship, Papendal cooperates with the KNWU and TIG Sports. The Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport, the Province of Gelderland and the Municipality of Arnhem support the event.
