Being in the top 10 in the UCI World Cup Ranking with 355 points, what's your goal for the last two rounds in SDE?
David Graf: I'd like to add two more main events and show that I'm capable of doing better than 7th or 8th.
Is the Olympic qualifying period on your mind when you're doing races after 1 September?
David Graf: I like that there is more on the line again. I started off with two C1 wins in Prague and will probably try to add a couple more C1 races early on in the quali period.
What's the best section on the track in Santiago del Estero?
David Graf: There is nothing specially good, maybe the surface. It has been a while since we raced a soiltec track!
How long is your travel from home to Rounds 7&8 in Argentina?
David Graf: We will leave 5pm Monday in Zürich, and arrive 5:30pm in SDE. Plus 6h time change. 30h?!

The Leatt Neck Brace is a product that can help prevent serious injury. The problem is, you will never know when you need it. Once you get used to it, it becomes part of the standard equipment that you wear whenever you get on the bike. It's better to snap the brace, than it is to break your neck. David Graf doesn't only wear the brace because he's sponsored by them, he wants to protect his neck in the first place, but also set an example for other BMX riders on the track. One can never be safe enough.

Two racers over in Europe are in shape: David Graf (SUI) and Laura Smulders (NED). Both doubled in Belgium at round 1&2 of the European Championships in Zolder, Belgium (home of a 2017 UCI BMX SX World Cup). With over 100 Elite Men entries it wasn't an easy win for Graf. Smulders beat UCI World Champion Mariana Pajon twice for maximum points this weekend. The season has kicked off.

Result: 14 I think
How tough was the competition in your country to get a spot on the Olympic team for Rio?
David Graf: It was probably the hardest one of all the countries this year. Between Renaud Blanc and myself. The fact we had to choose between World Cup ranked 4 and 5 after Papendal speaks a lot I guess.
What kind of preparation did you do with the National Olympic team before you took off to Brasil?
David Graf: I stayed at home, followed my normal routine and tried to avoid the hype.
The track looked a bit different than at the test event(s). What did you like about the Olympic track and what did you think didn't work?
David Graf: I liked everything but the first turn. It was probably the most fun track I've ridden in my career.
