The most progressive event in BMX dirt riding continues to shine! Monster Energy congratulates team rider Bryce Tryon on taking the win in the BMX Dirt competition at the 2023 Monster Energy BMX Triple Challenge in Glendale, Arizona, on Saturday. In the second stop of the series outside State Farm Stadium, the 22-year-old from Lodi, California, rose above the competition with a perfect technical run.
Presented by Monster Energy as the title sponsor, the BMX Triple Challenge is recognized as the most progressive showcase on the BMX circuit. Now in its seventh year, the open-invite event is open to the elite of the sport as well as up-and-comers looking to make a name for themselves.
Round one of the UK BMX Halfpipe series went down at Skaterham, Skatepark in Caterham Surrey on Sunday 12 th March. Riders from all over the UK came to kick things off, including some international riders! The idea is a simple, one series, four rounds – come along, ride and have fun.
The day kicked off with an open jam, where riders of all ages and ability could ride and session the ramp together, all receiving a prize for taking part. Next up was the amateur group, the same format was used for both Pro and Am groups. Two runs of 45 seconds, with judges scores given on a best run counts basis. The judges were made up of a group of bmx loving, experienced riders, all of them grass roots core bmxer’s, whose love for the sport keeps them involved.
The AM group was filled with up-and-coming riders, all of which showed how much they have improved over the past few years but securing 3rd place was Felipe Gomez. Felipe had some nice airs with tricks to match, throwing down some flair attempts, the last one just being pulled, which enabled him to walk away with best trick in the AM category. 2nd place was Joe Rendle, Joe had some nice airs, a 540, sweet tailwhips and some awesome topside handplants. The top spot went to Harry Gorman largely thanks to his overhead height airs and smooth style, although he went down heavy on his flair
The Sugar Hills trails in Aarle-Rixtel have hosted the Mini FATJAM since 1990. The little brother of the FATJAM opens the outdoor season officially. We've had great weather at the end of March multiple times but the 2023 edition had to be completed in the dry periods in the afternoon of 25 March. Luckily the trails can handle some rain. Drainage works as well as the black sand that absorbs the rain well. The jumps made of clay were scraped off a tiny bit which made them rideable within 15 minutes. Not that the little ones cared as they kept on riding also when water was falling out of the sky. If all this sounds dramatic, it wasn't. The EZ-UPs provided shelter and catching up took place in the few moments the rain took care of the dust.
While going through the pictures I noticed the essence of the Mini FATJAM. One photo shows Jari Roggeveen flipping the killer jump. 9-years old local Morris followed him towards the killer but did not dare to jump it. Next photo I see the two of them have a chat next to the KILLER. For the little ones getting to ride with the pros is awesome to see. The pros motivating the younger riders by giving pointers to progress is what makes BMX the best. With Morris being so young that Killer jump sure is intimidating. That ramp is taller than the kid himself and sends you to the moon. Next thing we see is for Morris to head to the Killer at full speed on his 18" bike. Full face on. Body protector strapped tight. With all his might Morris had followed Jari's advice and sent it big on the Killer. He managed to clear the gap and put a big smile on his face. Personal challenges are different for everyone and at the Sugar Hills
