Life is good sometimes. Well, most of the time. We can't complain really with what we have and as long as we're healthy, there's no reason to be pessimistic. But sometimes things are just awesome and they work out fine. Once a year we get an invite to ride the Grand Prix motocross track in Valkenswaard. TMV and TwinAir pull out all stops to give back to their dealers and friends and invite them for a free day of motocross on a well prepped and unique track. It was the day after the ONK that I grabbed everything together and threw it in the van, hoping I did not forget anything. It was going to be my second MX ride in 6 months so I was ready for a tough day. The track opened up at 10am and was in excellent shape. Flat and moist. Always the best for us amateurs to do some laps.

Later in the day this changed. It got rough, dusty and hot but it was still good fun. Martijn Verbakel's fun had ended by that time already as he had not put on the TwinAir filter correctly which cause his borrowed bike to stop running.

USA Cycling announced today the eight athletes who will compete in the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials for BMX on June 16 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif. With the overall winner of the event earning an automatic nomination to the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team, the competitors include: Connor Fields (Henderson, Nev./Chase BMX), Nic Long (Lakeside, Calif./Haro Bikes), Mike Day (San Diego, Calif./GT Bicycles), Barry Nobles (Menifee, Calif./DK Bicycles), Corben Sharrah (Tucson, Ariz./GT Bicycles), Donny Robinson (Napa, Calif./Hyper Bicycles), Joey Bradford (Monterey, Calif./Prophecy BMX) and Josh Meyers (Treasure Island, Fla./Ssquared-Answer).

Following the 2012 UCI BMX World Championships last weekend, David Herman (Wheat Ridge, Colo./Free Agent-Rockstar) has also been nominated to the Long Team, but will not compete at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials as he has already secured an automatic nomination to the Olympic Team as the overall leader of the 2012 USA Cycling BMX Power Rankings.

Redline riders from around the globe converged on Birmingham England this past week to do battle for the rainbow jersey and secure official placements on their country’s Olympic teams. In the end, it was 2011 World Championship bronze medalist Magalie Pottier of France and two time Junior World Champion Sam Willoughby of Australia who were able to power their Redline Flight bicycles to victory in their respective Elite classes. Redline saw its two star women riders 2012 US National Champion Alise Post of the US and Magalie Pottier cruise through the opening rounds with both winning almost every round leading to the finals.

Reflecting on the past three months still feels surreal as to how successful it was. Claiming my third World Title, rising to #1 in the UCI World Ranking ladder, leading the Supercross World Cup season, winning three consecutive World Cup Time Trials and winning my first World Cup in Norway. This past weeks racing in Birmingham England was the final stop of my hectic World Cup/Olympic qualifying tour. 2012 has started off being an almost textbook year and I am happy to say that I am in one piece, fit and healthy and have done everything that I can to qualify myself as Australia's #1 female pick for one of the

Joey Gough - World Champion! Many years of training and racing finally paid off for Identiti's Joey Gough on Friday night at the 2012 BMX World Championships in Birmingham. Joey clean swept the competition in the 17+ Female category by winning all her motos and blitzing the final to become World Champion, sending the home crowd wild! Joey now carries the coveted W1 plate for the rest of the year and into 2013. As well as being an incredible rider, Joey is a very popular competitor on the BMX circuit so her win was universally applauded. South African BMX legend and multiple South African & All Africa champion Sifiso Nhlapo, better known as Skizo 105, has qualified for the 2012 London Olympic Games. Despite his disappointment at missing out on a podium finish at the BMX World Championships in Birmingham, Skizo is delighted at having a second chance to represent his country and his team, MTN-Qhubeka, at the Olympics.

In 2008, Skizo made the podium at the BMX World Champs and qualified for the Beijing Olympics, which he unfortunately crashed out in the final. In 2009, he broke his neck. Never one to give up, he was back on the bike in 2010 and finished second at the World Champs held in South Africa.

In 2011, however, he suffered another stroke of bad luck, injuring his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) early on in the season, which meant he needed surgery and was out of contention for much of the season. As in 2009, he missed out on competing at the World Champs again.
