Tom Lynch, a former UK and Euro BMX racing champion, has been awarded the MBE for services to BMXing and 'ambulance cycling'. Tom Lynch founded the Cycle Response Unit (CRU) of the London Ambulance Service in 2000, the first such unit in the UK. A trial had found that medics on bikes almost always got to urban emergency scenes before normal ambulances. In a third of calls, the bicycle ambulance technician was able to cancel a full ambulance response, freeing up precious resources.

Another year has passed and it was another good one. Week in week out there were BMX events taking place. At some weekends there were five jams, contests or gatherings going on at the same time. You can complain about this but you can also see this as a good thing; choise, I mean, choice. The FATBMX event calendar is trying to keep you informed on the year 2007. We have pencilled in some big events but we are also adding local jams to the list because we know these are important to you. You can schedule your tour around the big dates or book a trip now that flights are cheap. Ryanair, Air Berlin and Easyjet have become a form of transportation because of their ridiculous deals sometimes. Look into it now and pay less. We take no responsibility on changed schedules so if it looks shady to you, you can decide whether you take the risk or not.

For 2007 we have once again scheduled to be present at as many BMX events as possible. We'll try hard to get the reports online soon after the event.

How many times did you want to take a photo of something and you didn't have your camera handy? You never know when you need to get that snip snap camera out of your pocket. Life these days has become easier with plenty of phones that come with built-in cameras that actually take decent photos. It's usually the opportunity that overrules the quality. Take today's pin-up for instance. You are driving along when you see this. Now it's time to slow down and point that camera in the right direction. Thanks to Medow for the pic.

Where is vert headed? Are the ramps too big and intimidating for new riders to take it on? Should there be obstacles on a competition vert ramp? These were a few of the issues at hand when Chad Kagy began organizing a gathering of vert riders at Woodward Camp. There was no contest, and no money up for grabs, just a good ramp (in Woodward’s Cloud 9) and a good place to get everyone together outside of a contest.

But the gathering was as much for up and coming riders with a serious interest in vert, as it was for seasoned veterans like Dennis McCoy, Steve Swope, Jay Eggleston, Dave Brumlow, Kevin Robinson, Mike Mancuso, Morgan Wade (and his girlfriend Natalie Wagner) and of course Chad Kagy. Young faces on the ramp included Zack Warden, Tony Campos, Zack Newman, and Jean Marie Bartsch, who traveled all the way from Switzerland. There were even some old-school legends (in addition to Dennis of course) present, in the way of Gary Pollack, Mark Eaton, and Large Ray. 

You know how hard it is to get the right replacement bolt for your bike part when you strip it. The local bicycle shop doesn't carry your BMX parts, the hardware store doesn't know what you're talking about so what do you do? 43 bolts has you covered from head to toe or better, from stem bolt to crank bolt. 43 Bolts are made of  grade 9 metal, are heat treated and made to resist harsh weather conditions.

Holiday or not, it's Friday and on Friday you want a Pin-Up girl on FATBMX. Puch used to make BMX bikes but the bike isn't the focus of the following photos. Once again props to JT for finding these. Enjoy the last Pin-Up of the year 2006.

December 9th, on my calender every year, the intrikat jam in Long beach, California. At the infamous Wilson basketball courts that have featured on many a intrikat video section… The third year for the jam, and it keeps growing, awesome turnout of pro/am riders every year, some people get to brush off the winter cobwebs and others get to ride as they normally do (cali guys).  The jam is always much more than just a days riding to me, it’s a ten day experience of the Californian lifestyle, for the second year running I rode at the Olympic pool spot almost everyday with Cory Fester, Canadian shredder from Edmonton, and Chad Johnston/Kip Williamson when they weren’t busy editing and all that good stuff. If you haven’t made the trip out to the jam I would recommend it, it’s the highlight of my year, laidback jam, someone brings a ghetto blaster, this year it was Kip who hooked it all up, and people ride and hang out, the choice is yours.
