Casey Neistat recently got a $50 ticket for riding his bicycle on the streets of New York City outside a designated bike lane. He is not happy about it. So not happy that he made a movie about the incident and put it on YouTube. Now almost half a million people know how not happy Casey Neistat is.
In his three-minute film Neistat argues that sometimes bicyclists must ride outside the bike lanes to avoid obstructions. He then demonstrates his point by going all physical comedy — crashing into a variety of objects he encounters while cruising the city’s bike lanes: a construction barrel, a metal trash can, a furniture truck, a taxi cab, and, for good measure, a parked cop car.
The movie ends with a brief note addressed to New York City: “Ticket the people blocking the bike lanes. Not bikers. … And give me my $50 back.”
