the place. When the bellies were full we 'cruised' over to the Daniel Dhers Action Sports Complex located at 171 Tradition Trail #207, Holly Springs, NC. First thing we noticed was the quality of the building. Where most parks are located in an old dusty industrial area in the dark side of the town, the DDASC facilty looked brand new from the outside with plenty of parking available. The park was closed at the time we visited it but Daniel had the key to unlock the door (of course he has!).
When we entered the building and got the tour, we were amazed. The park was well thought out and had something for everyone. The inside pro shop, medical center, offices, family room, tool section, photo booth, drink machine, make it a safe place for parents to drop off their kids at any time. Of course it's easy to have fun on the ramps that are available. It takes a little map to see the full lowdown and we'll try to sum up the park for you here. Looking at the photos might also be a good idea actually as you can see the sizes and extras. Most and for all you can see Daniel's type of riding back at the park. Yes it's got plenty of mini ramps. It's got several resi sections (miniramp and box jump), a spine mini, a foam pit (partly filled with Dave Mirra's Animal house foam), a kids section for starters and two amazing rhythm sections, one indoors and one outdoors.
By the time we'd received the grand tour it had stopped raining and it looked like the outdoor pump track would dry up. With the help of some squeegees we helped speed up that process and 15 minutes later we were rolling. The lines were smooth but it took a few minutes to get a feel of the box jumps. Once all was good it was hard to stop. The stops were used to get the sweat out of the helmet (Darden/Nyquist-style). The indoor pump track was a bit smaller but still a good time. Daniel put his bike together to get some pics done for this article and he was clearly stoked on the place.
Dhers has started a show team to get more people to the park. With concrete parks in the surrounding cities not allowing BMX bikes, the safe place to go is DDASC. With winter coming up it will be dry, warm and lit at night. If only we didn't have to fly across the ocean for a session....
