In our sport of BMX, and other similar disciplines, a concussion is often regarded by the riders as a minor injury. Not by the medics, they take it serious because it is serious. Repeated concussions have a cumulative effect - so that a person who sustains a number of concussions can end up with a more serious injury. Repeated concussions can also lead to Second Impact Syndrome. Acute brain swelling and bleeding occurs when a second concussion is sustained before the first one has healed properly. This can be difficult to treat and can be fatal. In layman's terms, unless they can open the skull to relieve the swelling within thirty minutes or thereabouts you are probably dead.

Problems that could arise over the first 24 hours once you leave the track are:

USA Cycling announced today the eight athletes who will compete at next week’s 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Cycling (BMX). With the overall winner of the event earning an automatic nomination to the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team, the competitors include: Tyler Brown (San Clemente, Calif.), Danny Calaug (Chino, Calif.), Steven Cisar (Altadena, Calif.), Mike Day (Santa Clarita, Calif.), Kristopher Fox (Phelan, Calif.), Bubba Harris (Goodyear, Ariz.), David Herman (Wheat Ridge, Colo.) and Donny Robinson (Napa, Calif.).

The 2008 Orange County Fair in Costa Mesa,California will enjoy three days of the best in action sports entertainment when ASA Entertainment’s Big-Air BMX Triples event, jumps into action from July 29-31 during the final week of this year’s OC Fair activities. At 8:15 p.m. each night, ASA Entertainment (ASA), the global leader in action sports event and television production, brings the excitement of BMX bike riding to the OC Fair’s Action Sports Arena.

The Big-Air Triple Jump is a new element in BMX competition that challenges riders to start from a 24-foot high ramp riding into three deep valleys and over three narrow platforms. This design allows the riders to grab ‘big air’ and perform three tricks in succession while trekking across a 165-foot long wooden course. This spin on BMX riding combines the best in BMX Box Jumping and Dirt Jumping

Jill Kintner thought her Olympic dream ended four weeks ago, when she was writhing in the dirt, screaming in agony after re-injuring her chronically right knee in a training crash. She felt no pain Saturday. By finishing sixth at the BMX world championships in Taiyuan, China, the 26-year-old from Seattle earned enough points to barely edge Arielle Martin of Pleasant Grove, Utah, in USA Cycling's yearlong battle for the lone automatic women's BMX berth into this summer's Beijing Olympics.
