National team captain Bas de Bever announced the riders that will represent The Netherlands at the first ever BMX race at the Olympic Games. After the World's race in China the coach picked the following riders: Robert de Wilde, Raymon van der Biezen, Rob van den Wildenberg, and Lieke Klaus will represent team Holland in the women class. Redline racer SHANAZE READE did it again; winning the UCi World Championships in Taiyuan, China, and firmly placing her bid as the Gold medal favorite this coming August when BMX Racing makes its Olympic debut in Beijing. This was Reade’s second consecutive Elite Womens title - having won last year in Victoria, BC - Canada, and counts as her third in a row if you wish to include her Junior Womens win in Brazil 2006.

As expected, the French girls were the toughest competition for Reade’s quest for a repeat. Reade’s incredible strength showed right from the start, with a comfortable 6-bike length lead out of turn one. From there, it was pretty much all hers to win or lose. MTB legend Anne-Caroline Chauson came closest to keeping up with the Redline factory rider, scoring second place one second behind. In fact, Shanaze had such a strong lead by the last turn she was able to sit down on the saddle and salute the fans with a fist-in the-air victory crossing the stripe. Without a doubt, Shanaze is untouchable at 

The 2008 Red Bull Empire of Dirt will be held over two days: Friday 25th and Saturday 26th July on a farm near Newton Abbot, Devon. The crowd will witness some of the world’s best all-round BMX riders hit the most insane course ever built: the world’s first BMX dirt slopestyle! The rider list, released last week, reads like a Who’s Who of BMX and includes Gary Young, Brian Foster, Chris Doyle, Corey Bohan and the UK’s very own Forte brothers – Kye and Leo.

Tickets for Red Bull Empire of Dirt are FREE, but strictly limited. Tickets are allocated for the Friday, Saturday or both days, and are PER CAR, so everyone is encouraged to fill their cars up (legally) with BMX fans.

In order to better reflect the ever-increasing global presence of the X Games franchise, ESPN has renamed and reorganized the department that now oversees more than a dozen events, qualifiers, exhibits and competitions annually. The Global X Events and Development department will focus exclusively on the continued global expansion of X Games events and related opportunities tied to the franchise.

"Global X Events and Development will organize multiple events in 2008, domestically and internationally, and along with EXPN.com and X Games Consumer products, the brand is truly thriving," said Keith Clinkscales, senior vice president, content development and enterprises, who oversees the newly named group.
