When you show up at an event the course is usually done when you get there. After the contest is over, you usually leave theplace before the ramps are taken down. What goes into building a course for a contest? It's different everywhere, but the Bike Hall people have been at work getting things ready for this year's edition. We caught up with Kamil Feifer who filled us in.
Who usually designs the course for the Bike Hall contest?Kamil: For this year park design is made by Czech riders Jakub J?za , Ondra Šléz and main organizator BHC Pavel Hyvnar.
Do you have existing ramps that you have to fit into the course?Kamil: The park is built on the existing ramps and each year we add one or two ramps, such as this year's Street barrier.
Are the ramps “pre-built” before they move into the big hall?
Kamil: Yes ramps are pre-built and repaired before they get moved into hall.
What does the workshop look like? Enough space to build all the ramps?Kamil: The ice rink provides enough space to build the park.
What tools do you guys use to make your life easier?Kamil: For park contruction and repair we used conventional tools: drill, welding machine, cordless screwdrivers and saw.
Do you prefer screws over nails?Kamil: Yes we prefer screws than nails, because screws are much stronger and easy replacable.
How much wood goes into a Bike Hall course?Kamil: We can not exactly specify wood amount. There are over 200 boards, 300 beams and other material.
How many trucks do you need to transport all the ramps?Kamil: Because for rest of the year is park built near ice rink we need only tractor trailer and two forklifts.
What happens with the ramps after the event?Kamil: Rark is relocated 200 meters away to KASPER BMX PARK - local riders ride here for rest of the year.
How many people help out building/setting up the course?Kamil: Many people works on bulding course but mostly about 10.
Are you guys proud once the ramp set-up is in place and ready to be used?Kamil: Yes we are proud of the fact that for 9 years is Bike Hall Contest part of the Czech Republic BMX scene.
How much time do you have to take down the ramps after the contest?Kamil: Usually it takes about one week.
