We still think it's funny that Markus Arnoldi and his band are participating at the Eurovision Song Festival in Germany. National TV for Kalle, that's crazy. But Kalle always had the talent and the drive to do things right. Remember the Beware videos in a time that not everyone and their uncle had a video camera and editing on a computer was just starting out. It didn't take Kalle long to learn new tricks. At least he just went for it and usually on his first attempt he came pretty close. I'm thinking flip fakies and flairs (flip-180-s) on vert ramps in the early '90-s. Anyway, we found these pics on the net and thought we'd share them with you. Good luck to Kalle on his way to being # 1.

Padded Cell's fourth birthday jam is happening in Feb at Rampworx, UK. A bunch of riding, a crazy heavy bike bunny hop contest (on 50 lbs. bike!) and the World premiere of the Padded Cell road trip DVD (edited by Joe Cox).

One of the most prestigious flatland contests is about the take place in Japan. The third edition of the Red Bull Circle of Balance has 18 Flatland icons from 9 countries travel to the land of the rising sun to battle for the $ 25,000.= USD prize purse. The COB website is now online so have a look of who are going to be there. In the meantime, orgainzer Andy Zeiss is figuring out the Japanese toilets. They come with an instruction card in Japanese and if you push the wrong button you're in for a surprise.  

It took 9 months and 9 days extra for Boyd de Jong to see this world. Paul de Jong and Carry van Cuyck are now the proud parents of Boyd. Boyd was born today at 12:45pm and weighed in at a little over 9 pounds. Both baby and mother are doing well. If your Paul's Boutique order isn't shipped the same day this week, you know why.

We're proud on the expansion of the De Jong family. 

Madison, Wis. – Jan., 2007 – Mongoose dirt and street rider Cam White is putting together the mother of all Freestyle BMX Jams on February 3, and the event’s proceeds all go to Support Kids with Cancer charity. The Jam starts at 4 p.m. on February 3 in Wamboin, Australia – 20 minutes from Canberra, Australia’s capital city. All proceeds made from the Hillside Jam’s BBQ and bike auction will be donated to Camp Quality, a charity to benefit children with cancer.

“I’ve been wanting to put together a big jam like this for a long time,” said White. “It’s been a big job, coordinating with the city, bringing in the dirt and the tools -- basically creating this thing from scratch. But it’s going to be a lot of fun and it will help kids that really need help.”

The BMX element consists of massive downhill jumps, fun lines and transfers built from 30 tons of dirt and a big deck roll-in. Think Red Bull’s Whistler contest but better.

The Dew Tour series has become an important series for the top BMX pros. Once the series starts in June, every month has a stop. A few new cities are on the program for 2007 and the first place has to be announced still. We will have to wait and see if it's going to be Kentucky after all. The dates are listed on the FATBMX event schedule and if we hear any updates, you will find them there. Round one and two have Open Qualifiers so if you think you've got what it takes, try to qualify for the rest of the tour at the Panasonic Open or Right Guard Open.

2007 Dew Tour Schedule:

10 years doesn't seem all that long ago. When you watch the bonus footage from 1996 you realize that quite a few things have changed in this period of time. Brian Foster was entering King of Dirt contests wearing the full Schwinn XS gear and that includes the leathers. Full face helmets were common (riders like Rooftop and Joe Rich had them too) and in 1996 the shorts were baggy. The chrome bikes weighed at least 8 pounds more and the top pros were wearing company jerseys to represent. It's fun to go back in time and I'm positive that in ten years from now we'll be laughing at the tight pants.

Al D and his crew put on the 7th BMX Invasion contest recently. One of the riders there had the camera rolling and finished putting together a lengthy video that's well worth watching. When you're finished looking at this video you will most likely find your way to the 8th BMX Invasion contest. With Al D at the helm we're sure that contest will happen sooner rather than later.
