Stephen's tracheostomy operation went well and has made him more comfortable. He now has the respirator breathing for him via a tube into his thoat and a feed tube into his stomach rather than everything going into his mouth. This has meant he is able to communicate better and we can understand most of what he is trying to say. Although no sounds comes out when he speaks, we are optimistic that with time and speach therapy, his voice should slowly but hopefully improve.

The doctors and surgeons have said that being so fit and healthy has been a major help to him in both sustaining the shock of the injury and in his ability to recover. 

Paul Roberts informed us yesterday that they had Stephen Murray sit up in a wheelchair for the first time in a week. That must have felt good after staring at the ceiling for days on end. Paul also said that he's going to be living in Baltimore for the next 6 months to be close to Stephen and his family. The Dew Tour apparently have a house in Baltimore that they are using for that. The support towards Stephen is still growing and you will be seeing special items on e-bay soon to support the Stephen Murray fund. Flip from Albe's had a DK complete bike signed by everyone who is currently on the Rock 'n Roll roadfools. Mat Hoffman threw in a signed DVD and Flip is going to include a photo of all riders on the tour.

The weather is really fucking things up. Too much rain in the UK have caused the NASS dirt events to be cancelled next weekend. This is the statement that we received: We regret that due to circumstances beyond our control, NASS dirt events have had to be cancelled, as a result of the consistent terrential rain we have experienced over the last couple of weeks. We hope to reschedule these events later in the year, and will keep you updated via the NASS website.

This week on FUEL TV's The Weekly Update With Boost Mobile, FuelTV brings you complete highlights from the first stop of the 2007 AST Dew Tour, the Panasonic Open in Baltimore, Maryland.

 At the BMX Dirt competition, Ryan Nyquist pulled out the victory on his last run, while Cameron White landed in second and Chris Doyle took third. Despite all the amazing performances there was a tragic moment during the BMX Dirt competition. 27-year-old Stephen Murray broke his neck attempting a back flip. 

"The Rebel Jam is like Disneyland and Woodstock for BMX all at once crammed into one weekend. It has the perfect balance of Riding, and Partying with the most laid back atmosphere. This sort of thing would not fly in the USA and that's what makes it unique. There's an amazing art show put on and a magical mystery tour bus ride through Berlin thrown in. Yesterday was quite a big day for everyone. The general surgeon arrived to discuss his tracheostomy operation which should hopefully be a temporary measure rather than a permanent fixture (amazing). This procesure takes the respirator out of his mouth and into his throat relieving pressure off his voicebox. They will also take out the feed tube from his mouth and insert this into his stomach. This leaves his mouth free and should be a lot more comfortable for him. 

For 2007, etnies presents the second annual Canadian Concrete BMX Jam series. This year we’re doing it again with 3 amazing BC concrete parks as the courses. Kirkstone, Coquitlam, and the legendary Seylynn snake run are the locations, and if you’re unaware of just how good the concrete is, just check any number of dvd releases in the past few years, and you’ll surely recognize them from almost any team footage (check the latest from Volume, Fit and Lotek for starters!)

We’ve got great prizing for the ams from etnies, and cosponsors LRG (lifted research group) and Dragon eyewear. There’s also $500 up for grabs at each of the 3 events for pro entries. Each and every person entered gets a free t-shirt this year, and its only $5 to enter am, and $10 to enter pro.

Pacific Palisades Elementary School held their annual EcoFest (2007) to much acclaim at which Xtreme athletes, Jesse Puente, the Cycling Flatland World Champion, and Mike Saavedra, THE top-rated Pro BMX and trails rider of today performed with an enviro-friendly message. EcoFest is an event in which kids and parents are encouraged to get to school via "alternative" vehicles (bikes, skateboards, etc.) and then participate in fun, educational, interactive eco activities throughout the day.

PPES's "Green Team" has won the school recognition as the greenest school in all of LAUSD. The event was sponsored by health lifestyle brands Alacer (makers of Emergen-C) an ASEC. 

Alacer, a 30-year vitamin company, and category leader among vitamin sellers, has in common with the PPES Green Team, and ASEC, a commitment to a fit, energetic, healthy lifestyle. Alacer's Emergen-C Street Team in part sponsored EcoFest 2007 to "share the good" with Palisades kids and their families. 

Stephen came through his operation yesterday and the doctors were happy with the way it all went. Having ths operation was the next big step that needed to happen. It was a big un at 7 hours but during that time they managed to stabilise his neck some more by pinning and plating the posterior side of his 3,4 and 5th cervical vertebrae. During this op, they also found he has fractured his T4 (4th thoracic vertebrae) and decided the best way for this to heal was to use a body brace.

There are a few further complications. He has a lot of crap on his lungs which is affecting his breathing. Because he is lying down his lungs are flat and this enables all the crap to build on his lungs and increase the risk of him catching pneumonia.

He also has a stomach infection cause by his body being immune to regular antibiotics, so he is now on IV antibiotics for the next 5 days which should clear it up.
