I was suprised that no one had tried it before, but after visiting two places no one had really been to before it also made sense to go back to an old friend but do something we also hadn't. Fact is I hate rental vehicles; unless you get yourself a closed back 7.5 tonne shutter van they're not really the reminder of getting your friends together and going off somewhere I like. So buying something always appealed. There you get two options, buy something decent and hang on to it afterwards, or buy something of a heap and just do whatever with it.

I didn't really know what would be the end option as we started looking, fact is we'd been looking last year as well but decided against it. It's the kind of thing that you get sucked into, with an open scope for any vehicle and Chris from Hotwheels also got sucked into digging up some weird stuff. Somehow part of the tour ended up just being looking for the right cars. We looked at everything from Mercs to Capri's - which would have made at least one team member real happy. I looked at old library buses, Ice cream vans and battered old camper vans from the 60's.

Who did you grow up riding with?
Dustin: When I first started riding it was with Nathan Penonzek & a couple other friends just outside of Vancouver. Then, when I moved to Vancouver it was Ron Mercer then down the line to Osato, Miron, Enns, Rob Sigaty & a lot of the badass's around Vancouver.

Do you feel you've been in the shadow of Miron, Osato, Enns as far as coverage is concerned?
Dustin: I wouldn't say I feel shadowed by those guys, each one of those guys is an amazing rider with different talents. I'm not the most competitive person in the world so I'm psyched to be able to have the chance to ride with all of them.....to be honest I've never thought about it.

Damn, here's the last part of the Elevation comp. It was insane. We've saved the best for last. Here are your top 10 finishers:

10. Romuald "BB" Noirot. Top 10 got money. A big scoreboard first showed the schedule, then it showed the top twenty qualifiers and then it showed two groups of riders; The "In the money" group and the "Not in the money" group. BB was the first rider to enter the Money group on the left side of the score board. He did so by throwing true superman airs over the big sets, no-handed 360-s, whips, a couple of lookbacks, 3-whips, and three-in-one combo's that made you want to rewind the film to figure out what he just did. BB is riding his signature MacNeil these days and wanted to show contest organizer and MacNeil boss Jay Miron his current level. The judges (Osato, Biz, Korthaus, Barrett, Beringer) were impressed too. 

The Red Bull Elevation comp was a huge success. The jumps were awesome, the riders were top level, the organization was perfect, the sound was great and partying was on. We're splitting up the report by listing the 11-20 placed riders first and then the 1-10 placed riders later. Enjoy.

20 Adam Baker. You could take the finals two ways: 1) Take it safe and miss out on the top ten (meaning no money), or 2) Step it up and go for it. Adam was one of those riders who stepped it up, or at least tried to. The three-whip over the first set, that went straight into an oververt 180 degree right berm, caused some problems where Adam lost the speed he needed to clear the following set. Not happy with this he tried it again. With three out of four runs counting, missing more than one good run wasn't ideal. It was Adam's birthday too but that didn't help change things. After another sneak attempt back up on the starting hill he pulled what he wanted (the truckdriver) and continued with a personal victory run down the hill throwing one-handers and stretched one-footers for the hell of it. 

USA Cycling announced the Podium Program, a three-tiered financial support initiative that assists Olympic hopefuls. Created by USA Cycling and funded by the United States Olympic Committee, the Podium Program awards cash stipends and support to elite athletes based on results and performance. In May, athletes who qualified for the program in the Olympic disciplines of road, mountain and track were announced. Today, four eligible athletes in the newest Olympic discipline – BMX – were announced, bringing the total number of athletes in the Podium Program to 35.
