September, 2005 – San Jose, CA – Dave Mirra, 31, of Greenville, N.C., today took home his first win at the Dew Action Sports Tour, placing first in the BMX Park competition. Mirra’s backflip tailwhip over the spine in his first run helped to earn him a winning score of 92.25. The higher score of two runs is taken to determine the rider’s final score. “I did what I wanted to do,â€? said Mirra, who now sits in fifth place in the Tour’s BMX Park standings with 176 points. “Heading into Orlando, I’m able to creep back into the points race. Every Tour stop is a building block. You have got to come out strong from the start and finish even stronger. [Second place finisher Scotty] Cranmer is the future of this sport. He is an amazing athlete and he gave me a run for my money.â€? Scotty Cranmer, 18, of Jackson, N.J. edged 26-year-old Los Gatos, Calif. native Ryan Nyquist for the second place spot with a score of 90.50. Nyquist’s first run earned him an 89.75, which he was not able to improve upon after getting a flat tire in his second run.

September, 2005 - San Jose, CA - Ryan Guettler, 22, of Brisbane, AUS earned his third consecutive victory in the Dew Action Sports Tour’s BMX Dirt competition today at HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif. Guettler, who was knocked unconscious during a practice run and later released by paramedics, bested the field with a final score of 93.63, an average of his best two of three runs. His final run was highlighted by a one-handed front flip. “For the entire Tour, I have been up against awesome competition,â€? said Guettler, who remains at the top of the BMX Dirt standings in the chase for the Dew Cup, with 337 total points. “I am going to keep giving it my best every time.â€? Fellow Australian Luke Parslow placed second with an average score of 92.75. Parslow, who has consistently improved at each stop of the Dew Action Sports Tour, now sits in eighth place in the BMX Dirt standings.

Robert de Wilde did it again! He's the winner of the UCI Supercross held in San Jose, California which was part of the Dew Action Sports Tour so this race will have some serious TV coverage as well. Congrats to the Dutch Wildman! Here's part of the official press release: Robert De Wilde, 28, of the Netherlands took top honors in the Toyota Challenge’s specialty competition, the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup Finals. BMX Supercross will make its debut as a Olympic medal sport in Beijing in 2008. De Wilde, also known as the “Flying Dutchman,â€? captured the title with a final time of 30.091 seconds. Luke Madill, 25, of Australia finished second with 31.928 while Montgomery, Texas native Kyle Bennett, 25, came in third with a time of 32.717. A total of 48 riders competed.

Paulie Lange raced an ABA National in Reno, NV last weekend. He raced the new 2006 Sector frame for the first time and pulled off a 7th and 4th in AA Pro. This is a sample frame and frames should be in stock at Felt by November. Check out the picture and you will see that new for 2006 is an Internal headset and Hydro-formed top tube. What you can't see is that it is a few ounces lighter, comes with euro bb and the back end of the XL is one chain link shorter (same as the Pro X if you want to compare) It will come in two colors Matte Black and Paulie Pink.

September 8, 2005 – San Jose, CA – Jamie Bestwick, 34, Nottingham, GBR, wowed the crowd at HP Pavilion Thursday evening at the Dew Action Sports Tour’s Toyota Challenge during a run filled with intricate tricks in BMX Vert Finals. Bestwick’s best run, his first of the evening, was filled with a difficult mix of tricks, including an Alley-oop 540. It was Bestwick’s first of two runs that stole the show and scored a 94.50. He also finished first at the Vans® Invitational last month in Portland, Ore. and at the Right Guard Open in July in Denver, Colo. Bestwick currently sits in first place in the points standings with 300 total points. “It’s big pressure being in first place now,â€? said Bestwick. “It’s just been a great season. This is a prestigious title, even though it’s in the inaugural season. This is something I’m really shooting for.â€?

(Ex-)BMX-ers seem to be doing well at 4-cross events. Brian Lopes won another World Title in Italy dicing with plenty of other riders whose names might sound familiar. Today the UCI Supercross BMX race is taking place in San Jose as part of the Dew Tour. The track looks insane and it even got a few of the freestyle guys in the mood to line up for the qualifying time trials. Tim "Fuzzy" Hall beat Alistair Whitton by 0.621 seconds and finished in 43rd and 44th respectively. Freshly new NBL champ Mike Day posted the best time with Holland's Robert de Wilde in second followed by UCI World Champ Bubba Harris in third. It is going to be an exciting race. Let's hope Robert can repeat his win from the UCI Supercross in Switzerland earlier this year. Riders had two laps to set a time. It was a busy week up in Canada. After the RedBull Elevation contest it was straight to Vancouver for a week of BMX activities including the Metro BMX jam. Josh Harrington won the contest and Hard Trick comp. Dave Osato pulled a 3-whip drop-in during the contest and gets a check for that one. Staats Bicycles’ Mike Day wins the NBL AA Pro National Title. Mike entered the weekend sitting in a close second to Randy Stumphauser and only a few points ahead another Staats AA Pro, Robert de Wilde, the points where so close that the Champion would be whoever finished better in the final main event. All three riders qualified to the semi final rounds but Randy was not able to transfer out of the first semi. Mike and Robert were left to race together in the second final. Mike did not get a great start and had to fight back to transfer in the top four positions. Unfortunately for Robert, Mike had to pass Robert to transfer and Bob lost his chance to race Mike in the main for the title. With both Randy and Robert out of the final only Warwick Stevenson had a chance to take the title from Mike. If Warwick won Mike had to finish fourth place or better to win the title. Warwick did the best he could and won the main event but Mike held on to finish in the top four, winning his first National Championship.
