Arielle Martin (East Spanaway, Wash./Intense BMX) earned her first podium of the 2013 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup season on Sunday in Papendal, Netherlands, after riding to a second-place finish in the elite women’s final. After finishing third in her semifinal heat to move into the finals, Martin got off to a fast start behind
Mariana Pajon (COL). But Pajon, yesterday’s superfinal time trial winner, held the front for the duration of the race to sweep the weekend while Martin kept pace to secure silver.
Lauren Reynolds (AUS) finished third, more than a second and a half behind Martin.
Alise Post (Saint Cloud, Minn./Redline Bicycles) also made the supercross final, but finished fifth after crashing into a downed rider on the finishing straight. Both Martin and Post won two of three qualifying motos in their respective groups to advance to the semifinals.
Dani George (Palmdale, Calif./Supercross BMX) did not advance beyond the qualifying heats after finishing fifth in her group.
