San Jose is the 10th largest city in America with people driving cars fueled by vegetable oil. This can only be the Bay Area where the Toyota Challenge leg of the Mountain Dew Tour is being held. Watching vert practice and prelims it's clear that the final tomorrow will be between the king of smoothness Bestwick and Chad Kagy. Both looked really good and in control. Simon Tabron, Jimmy Walker and Tom Haugen also looked good and will be fighting for the last spot on the podium.

Two BMX events in The Netherlands this weekend. First off it's the BMX BOK series on Saturday 9 September over at Burnside skatepark in Deventer. You know it's a good time when Herm invites everyone to come ride his park. He has supported BMX since the beginning and we should applaud that. The park has a few new obstacles so it should be fun. Take a look at Herm's shop while you are there because the winter is coming up and it's a well stocked snowboard place.

On Sunday 10 September it's back to the South as the Helm locals are having a jam at the best and biggest dirtjump spot in The Netherlands. We know that most of you haven't been there yet but when you arrive and see the place you will be amazed. The kids will have a race going on on the kids track (situated next to the trails) and there will be a High jump and Best trick contest for the advanced riders. Starts at 14:00hr - 18:00hr. Location of the trails for those who know how to operate a GPS or route planner: Johannes Vermeerlaan (110), Helmond, the Netherlands. 

Mike Ardelean wears a lot of hats. He recently changed to ride for the newly formed United Bike Company. His bike looked brand new when we got to see it in Berlin, Germany but that was because he had just put it together and had only ridden it for a few times. The street session that followed the "photoshoot" was nuts! Hmm, not really but we did end up drinking a few pitchers of Berliner and had a good time. Basically Mike's bike has everything that United makes (frame/forks/bars) and lots of Mosh parts, Sun rims and Odyssey tires and seatpost. Having no brakes nor pegs gives the bike a clean look. We took a few pics so you can figure out what Mike rides.

The Forum frame was designed by Haro team rider & Aussie ruler Colin Mackay. Here's is some extra info on the frame also... "First off, the name represents what the bike represents: a large group of personalities, each with their own tastes and style. A Forum is never made of one person/use or function, much like this frame. It was designed with all types in mind. In years' past, Haro categorized their bikes by a discipline or particular category. We wanted to get away from that strict way of thinking, and made a bike that's good for riding...all types and styles. 

1st September 2006  One dismal, grey Tuesday morn in mid August, summer had clearly taken an early exit. Nonetheless, the relentless GBH crew threw down their space hoppers at Winch services and grabbed their boards to tackle the newest GBH installation in Wokingham. Team skaters Ross Forknall and Bummer flew over the ramps of Wokingham, which as well as talent and the slick design, could also be accredited to the bucketful of spaceships they annihilated on the way down, all those E numbers can’t be a good thing, surely?

8 of 10 North American UCI Races to be held in U.S., exclusively at NBL Elite Series races. Colorado Springs, Colo. (September, 2006)—USA Cycling confirmed today revisions and finalized venues to the previously announced 2006-07 UCI BMX Continental Calendar. The UCI has awarded eight of the 10 North American-based events to the United States. The calendar opens November 4, 2006 with the NBL Silver State National in Las Vegas, Nev. followed by the NBL Christmas Classic in Columbus, Ohio December 28. The 2007 calendar year continues with two separate events in one weekend at the NBL Lake Mead National in Boulder City, Nev. February 24-25. After a month off, the series resumes on consecutive weekends with the NBL Gator National in Sarasota, Fla. March 31 and the NBL Easter Classic in Orlando, Fla. April 7. The NBL Freedom National in Woodbridge, Va. is scheduled for April 28 before the final U.S. stop in Prunedale, Calif. for the NBL Golden State National May 19. 

In honor of George Esser, the original founder of the NBL who recently passed away, a storybook ending put to a close one of the most exciting race seasons in history. The 29th Annual Grand National in Louisville, Kentucky goes down in history as one of the 'Best Ever' and although weather threatened to put a damper on the festivities late in the week, dry skies prevailed and the sun finally made a timely appearance to shine on what would be a stunning day of triumph, glory, and surprise. Perhaps that was George's last gift to the sport he helped found and create. From a rider's perspective, the weekend was what BMX Racing is all about - having a good time. To start things off, each rider received a cool NBL Goody bag with stickers and catalogues and there were plenty of contests and prizes throughout the weekend to keep the crowds busy and excited. Spectators and riders were provided with extra copies of September's BMX Today magazine that included a full-color 'Grands' Program that gave everyone the inside scoop on the major showdown's for the weekend and a chance to win some sponsor prizes in the 'Predict the Winner' contest. 

The flatland in Brazil demonstrates great evolution. Currently some athletes compete in international tests with excellent results. In 2006 happens de first national championship with 40 participants, organized for Confederação Brasileira de Ciclismo (CBC) with promotion of the specialized site BMX Press . The number of practitioners of the modality grew significantly and they call the attention the media. “Finally we popularize the sport”, says Gustavo Dias, director of CBC. Dias also commemorates the increase in the number of sponsors. “To invest in flat, currently, offers financial return”, he affirms. With the consolidation of the modality, the CBC decided to demonstrate its social responsibility.
