Rick Thorne has given up BMX. Sick of all the comments he received he made a switch to playing golf.

It might not be fully "Hollywood" or "Rockstar" but at least Thorne can chill out a bit. His black clothes are out the window but he couldn't quite give up the black hat yet.

The Gymnasium Ibirapuera in Sao Paulo will be the venue of the next ABBMX contest. You've been able to follow the Brasilian scene here on FATBMX thanks to Charaba and his crew. Up next is a vert comp. The date is 12-13 May 2006 and there's a R$ 10.000 Reais Prize Purse. It might not be 10 grand in US dollars or Euros but it still sounds like a lot. 

Redline’s reigning UCi World Champ looked like his normal self in the first moto of AA-pro on Saturday; snappin’ hard and powering out of turn one to the familiar 5 or 6 bike length lead … that is, until he hit the double step-up at the usual Mach Speeds that only he can achieve aboard his Flight Pro XL.

As Bubba recalls, “My front wheel just barely clipped the jump and I went flying over the bars.” He got up to a gushing elbow that eventually would need 15 stitches.

What's it like riding where you live?
Hoang: It's amazing... everyone here rides together all the time but somehow we all have really different riding styles so it's not only fun to ride with all my friends but to watch them.

Who are some of the people who help you out? 
Hoang: I ride for Kink, Kronik energy, Vult helps me out, and munklebud! They all help me out a bunch and are awesome!.. I've also gotten help from Jim Bauer at Odyssey.

So Hoang, I hear the only reason you learned to do nose manuels for so long was because you rode bent forks is that true? 

FLATLAND is the most artistic form of BMX riding, blending unique styles and cultural backgrounds. Riders exhibit intense focus and discipline as they execute a seamless array of tricks on their bike. Flatland also has an international flavor, capturing the creative influence from people around the world. We capture this creativity and variety of riding styles through our Annual Flatland Voodoo Jam event in New Orleans, Louisiana. This year will be the 2nd annual event and promises to be larger and more recognized than last year's event. 

Firstly I thank God, for to guide us and to give us wisdom for working with all that emotion of doing some of the more style champ of all of the times in Brazil, done by BMXers for BMXers, perfect and very organized and with a lot of love. I thank the team of sporting programming of SESC Santos, Sra Marise mentor of the movement CicloVida, to Mr. Carlos Pimentel and the Mister Fernando Oliveira that was until finishing instant in the area excited with the great competition. Andre Ribeiro and Marcelo Ribeiro the brothers Dream Bike were the maximum, they worked day and night from the beginning of the month, you are special boys, stopped even for doing this event well done.

In the 18 .03 it was the discipline Flatland that illuminated the arena with the presence more than 60 Flatlanders and the technical judges of Flatland, Cleybon, Koy and Andre Ramon were perfect, which in the format Jam session evaluated.

Vince Primel and BlackJack are organizing a trail jam in France. This is the second edition. Here's a little explanation of how the jam goes:  The Jam is held on true trails with lots of lines. Registration for the jam will start online.We're having 3 to 4 groups of 30/40 riders. Each group rides 2 times for 45 minutes per day. It's a 2 day event (6 - 7 May 2006). 4 judges will watch all the riding both days and at the end of the weekend they will announce the winners. There will be free lunch for the riders, unlimited fruit (apples, bananas, organges) and water.

It's possible to register through the website: www.trailpeoplejam.bmxinfo.com.  It's in French but the English version will be up soon. It's also the place where you can find all info you need and you get a good feeling of what the jam is all about. We welcome international riders. 

It's always good to receive an issue of BBN but lately the press releases make it on the internet before the trade news makes it to print. With the trade mag coming out 4 times per year, the news it brings can be a bit dated (compared to the web) but is also has articles that are timeless that you can read at any point in time. The Mirraco news made it to the cover of the March issue and at the same time HARO's Chief Operating Officer Joe Hawk gets interviewed on the situation. Haro's Tony D gets an interview as the new brand manager and Robbie Morales took Tony D's old TM job at Fox Racing and gets asked some questions about that. Can't we all just agree on one size? is what guest editor Chris Moeller is asking in the March issue. Read it and give your feedback. 01 Company-01 Question is with Colin Stiles of Transit. Ron Wilkerson explains the benefits of having BMX shows at BMX stores, and Rich Vitiello is selling billiard tables these days instead of Huffy's and Mongoose's. BNN interviewed him and Rich gives his reasons.

The 'hell is for zombies' jam is taking place this weekend and the weather is looking good so here's some info about they day for those that want to know: Starts at 12pm at Victoria skate park in Auckland city center, New Zealand. There will be a free BBQ (bring your own beer). It's a jam only, not a comp! although there will be prizes for the bunny hop, long jump, and ledge comp, as well as plenty of other prizes for best trick or rider of the day, that sort of shit.
