September 8, 2005 – San Jose, CA – Jamie Bestwick, 34, Nottingham, GBR, wowed the crowd at HP Pavilion Thursday evening at the Dew Action Sports Tour’s Toyota Challenge during a run filled with intricate tricks in BMX Vert Finals. Bestwick’s best run, his first of the evening, was filled with a difficult mix of tricks, including an Alley-oop 540. It was Bestwick’s first of two runs that stole the show and scored a 94.50. He also finished first at the Vans® Invitational last month in Portland, Ore. and at the Right Guard Open in July in Denver, Colo. Bestwick currently sits in first place in the points standings with 300 total points. “It’s big pressure being in first place now,â€? said Bestwick. “It’s just been a great season. This is a prestigious title, even though it’s in the inaugural season. This is something I’m really shooting for.â€?

Today the UCI Supercross BMX race is taking place in San Jose as part of the Dew Tour. The track looks insane and it even got a few of the freestyle guys in the mood to line up for the qualifying time trials. Tim "Fuzzy" Hall beat Alistair Whitton by 0.621 seconds and finished in 43rd and 44th respectively. Freshly new NBL champ Mike Day posted the best time with Holland's Robert de Wilde in second followed by UCI World Champ Bubba Harris in third. It is going to be an exciting race. Let's hope Robert can repeat his win from the UCI Supercross in Switzerland earlier this year. Riders had two laps to set a time. It was a busy week up in Canada. After the RedBull Elevation contest it was straight to Vancouver for a week of BMX activities including the Metro BMX jam. Josh Harrington won the contest and Hard Trick comp. Dave Osato pulled a 3-whip drop-in during the contest and gets a check for that one. (Ex-)BMX-ers seem to be doing well at 4-cross events. Brian Lopes won another World Title in Italy dicing with plenty of other riders whose names might sound familiar. DJ Lavaman and DJ Tommi will work the turntables at the Transbull jam in Utrecht on 17 September 2005. The jam, contest and workshops will be held at the Transwijk skatepark. Photo captions are a nightmare for magazine editors. Coming up with something good and/or funny for every photo drives the editors crazy, especially in times when the deadline is coming up and you're already lacking 3 nights of sleep. At FATBMX we have a maximum number of characters that we can use to go along with every photo. Those appear when you park the browser on the photo and wait a second or two. Saying a lot in a few words is even tougher. Today we have a photo that needs a caption. It's your turn to send it in.

The morning after at the FAT-JAM does not really exist. Getting up early is not a priority. We've been around for too long to know that a morning program at a jam is useless. At 14:30hr people started meeting at the local mini ramp in Aarle-Rixtel for, again, a free jam session. Electricity for the PA this time came from an electrical outlet on the roof of the "De Dreef" building and the loud Heavy Metal CD from the day before was changed to something mellower to start the day. Later on in the session a 30 minute "Best Trick" contest was organized. The riders had half an hour to pull a good trick. Pim van den Bos from Veldhoven did a disaster tailwhip but had a few difficulties to pull it to fakie or to manual. Daniel's no-footed cancans were sick and so were his back to back fufanus on the fence of the ramp. Kruimel pulled a fufanu to barspin on Sunday but the "FAT-JAM Best trick trophy" went to Bas Brouwer with a nice one-handed footjam. The music kept playing for a bit longer and the session continued for those who wanted to. There was no pressure, just a good session with fellow riders.

Staats Bicycles’ Mike Day wins the NBL AA Pro National Title. Mike entered the weekend sitting in a close second to Randy Stumphauser and only a few points ahead another Staats AA Pro, Robert de Wilde, the points where so close that the Champion would be whoever finished better in the final main event. All three riders qualified to the semi final rounds but Randy was not able to transfer out of the first semi. Mike and Robert were left to race together in the second final. Mike did not get a great start and had to fight back to transfer in the top four positions. Unfortunately for Robert, Mike had to pass Robert to transfer and Bob lost his chance to race Mike in the main for the title. With both Randy and Robert out of the final only Warwick Stevenson had a chance to take the title from Mike. If Warwick won Mike had to finish fourth place or better to win the title. Warwick did the best he could and won the main event but Mike held on to finish in the top four, winning his first National Championship.
