Why in the BMX zone?
For 2009 we have created the S&M/Fitbikeco zone.
In general, what are the tough things to battle when developing new products?
Wondering if the product will be a hit or a miss when it finally becomes available.
Do you fancy going to Taiwan to follow up on the development process and to negotiate pricing?
I work more on the U.S.A. side of products. We are trying to develop a product team, but finding good people is not easy.
Who are some of the riders that give good feedback on the products that make your life easier?
I find all of the S&M and FIT riders very helpful if you ask them.
Do you have secret product testers out there or do the team riders take care of that?
George Ramirez. He will be testing a new bike for me after the show.
Big tires, big bars, slammed seats, small gearing and lightweight. What's next?
Keep your eyes on our websites and you will find out.
How hard is it to come up with a colour for your products?
It's not.
Are you scared of the mandatory paint/colour testing or do you not worry about that yet?
It is pushed back in the U.S.A. until 2010 and we conform to every regulation anyway.
How important is pricepoint for your products?
We just need to keep the lights on.
Can you explain how hard it is to put an original idea into a final product?
If you are diligent with your emails, phone calls, and face time anything can be done. If you rely on someone else to do this, the product will never see the light of day.
What is a 2010 product you designed that you are most proud of?
The signature series products are always the most satisfying. There is never time to think about what we have done. It is always what we are doing next.
What's the worst design in BMX at the moment?
This haircut.
What do you think is a clever product?
The Six-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic(r) from Audi is very impressive.
Why do people need to look into your brand?
Truth is. I make bike parts for the American working man, because I'm a hell of a salesman and he doesn't know any better.
