Finding a job in the BMX industry is dream come true for most people. It just happened to Chris Raceles who is hired as the BMX product manager over at Haro Bikes. We sent a few questions to Chris to see what his plans are. One of them is riding loads. He might be disappointed that that usually doesn't happen. Anyway, here's Chris.

Must be willing to work evenings and weekends as needed. It's 21:15pm right now on Saturday 18 March 2006. The People's Store in Cologne was opened today. We drove over to Koelle to check it out and were impressed. The store is very stylish and well thought out. It's got a little showroom on the left in a separate building but the main shop is where the action is. Janosh's BMX shop and wethepeople teamed up to form the People's store. Janosh will be running the BMX shop that was designed and planned out by Harry Schmidt and Klaus Dyba of wethepeople.

Next to a full range of wethepeople equipment and FUSE protection gear, the shop carries BMX specific shoes from Orchid, etnies and Lotek and bikes from Hoffman as well as hard to find special stuff like adidas' Y3 bike and the retro Mongoose.

When you moved here you didn’t have a job in the bicycle industry, what did you do to survive so you could still ride your bike in sunny California?

Povah: Originally the reason why I came over here was to ride my bike. I had a job painting cars. I always rode and in the weekends I did shows and made a lot of extra money that way but I still painted cars for a living. Down the line I was fortunately enough to get a job building ramps instead of painting cars which was also better for my health. From there I met Jay Miron, got a job with Schwinn. Schwinn went bankrupt and from there I got a job at etnies.

Do you feel you’re fortunate with the way your life turned out or do you feel that with your BMX history and BMX dedication, you deserve a job in the industry?

Povah: I think anyone can have what they want. When I was a kid what I wanted to do is ride a bike and have fun and never thought about a job because I rode in the early eighties and there wasn’t that much money in it, you know.

gOrk and his posse of riders including Redline's Rooftop, Dustin Gunther, Tyrone Williams and Bubba Harris are now working/riding for a Dutch firm called Accell Group. We're pretty sure it will be business as usual over there at SBS but the company got bought by the Accell Group at the beginning of this month. Accell will probably use this position to sell Redline bikes through their giant network in Europe so if you happen to see a Redline in the shop window of your local bike shop, you know where that's coming from. Here's a bit of official info on the acquisition:

March 13th 2006.  After over 10 years of working with Seventies/Backyard and Stuart Dawkins I have decided to leave the company to launch my own venture. I will resign from my position as co-director of Seventies on March 28th this year. This is one of the most difficult decisions I¹ve ever had to make. This role has given me the opportunity to work with many great people and develop some great friendships throughout the BMX world. As a result these have been the most exciting years of my life.

We Dutchies like speed skating, simply because we're good at it. We conquered several (gold) medals at the recent winter Olympics in Torino, Italy. If you take a good look at the speed skaters, you must have noticed the number of Oakley Pro M-frame glasses on the athletes. Well, it's the work of Steve Blick, who next to anything on 2 wheels that has no motor on it, was stuck dealing with the damn speed skaters.
