The Red Bull Illume photo contest has grown into a big thing for photographers. This year BMX photographer Vincent Perraud won the Culture category with a photo from the Simpel Session. Congrats Vincent! Here's the description.
"This photo was taken in Tallinn at the Simpel Session, one of the biggest international BMX events, in January 2008 after a long day of qualifiers. Everyone was tired and was looking forward to getting back to the hotel because of the climate; it was -10°C.
The riders started cramming into the bus that wasn’t leaving. The bikes took up a lot of space! The scene was taking place very quickly and so I decided to take a few snaps without setting my camera or lens, just for fun and memory’s sake.
I was very lucky to capture this unusual scene, especially as my
3D is hot. With Stereo Bikes bringing their 2011 catalog in 3D, and also the work of Sebastian Denz, it feels like Captain EO is back. Denz' photographs were on display at the Carhartt store in Hossegor and the 3D effect was amazing. With his work SKATEBOARDING.3D Sebastian Denz won the 20th International BFF Promotion Award of the German Association of Freelance Photographers.
I've had these illustrations of Bob Haro sitting on my desktop for months now waiting for the right moment to post them on the site. Today is that day. Bob Haro will be displaying his work in Cologne, Germany tonight and I don't want to miss it. To show you what he's all about, enjoy the following pieces. He might have brought some of these originals to Germany. We'll see tonight. Here's to the legend.
Last weekend we were on the guest list of Nike 6.0 to check out the Nike 6.0 BCN PRO contest in Barcelona and also we were invited to be part of the world wide premiere of the Nike ID PRIMO launch. To be honest it felt a bit unusual to be treated this way in BMX. Flight over, pick up from the airport, checking into the hotel with a welcome package waiting for you, welcome dinner that night, Nike ID Primo launch the morning, the whole nine yards. By noon the next day I had not seen a BCN BMX PRO yet.
