Everyone knows how hard it is to ride in the wintertime. When the Impact park called for a BMX jam on a Saturday night it was time to make it over there. It was BMX-only from 6pm till midnight. That's 6 hours of riding for a fee of 5 Euros at an indoor park. Not bad.
The park had a few Santa's up for X-mas decoration and they had hired 4 real Santa's on skateboards and gave them some Jenever to stay warm. It was fairly cold inside but not if you were riding.
It was a good mix of riders from Belgium and The Netherlands. Jurrien and Barry Kohne made it over from Amsterdam, the Den Dungen crew had arrived early, the Zeeland posse was present, so was Kneppers and crew, Schep, BdJ, Casper Hoedemakers, Daniel, Max of the Promise park, Custom Remco Elgersma and a bunch of other Dutch riders. The Belgian locals were ripping it up. Hannuh Cools, Nico Vink, Timothy Bauwens, Greg van Tulder, Quentin de Martelaere, do we need to say more?
Impact has something to off for everyone. Foampit; check, vert ramp; check, undervert ramp; yes, mini with hip and spine, check, jumpbox; noted, box-jump; sure thing, curved wall; yes sir, mini ramps; aight! flatbanks; sure, bank to wall; Yup, platform spine with hip; yeehaa.
With so many riders present it was hard to hip into and out of ramps. All platforms seemed to be occupied all night but not too crazy. When the real action took place it was time to watch and show some support.
Mark Vos' icepick on the vert-wall was amazing but he wasn't done with it. It might have taken him 14 tries with his 36-16 gearing but he finally pulled an icepick to barspin on it. Insane. The box jump had sessions with De Schep (Dennis Keunen) doing big no-foot cancans and 360-s, Vink doing 360-s with table and X-up variations and Greg van Tulder doing supermans and nothings.
Hannuh ruled the curved wall and has got the manuals wired. Watching Vink ride the mellow mini-ramp is a pleasure. So much flow and skill. Quentin de Martelaere did some huge turndowns on this mini and also pulled a sweet fufanu on a back fence right at the entrance.
Dutch Daniel messed around on the undervert ramp and made tailwhips and fufanus look easy. Kneppers was blasting over a hip, Casper was doing fakie wallrides, and Pascal Closset did a lookback left and right. It was a great session with no pressure at all. Respect was shown for the good stuff and there was plenty of good stuff going on in the 6 hours of BMX-ing at the Impact park in Santa Claus, uhhh, I mean, Sint Niklaas.
