Monster Energy congratulates team rider Scotty Cranmer on his bronze today in BMX Freestyle Park at X Games Barcelona 2013. It’s the seventh career X Games medal for the 26 year old from New Jersey. Today’s BMX Park final event saw the top riders battling through their heats with the top six riders advancing to the final, which was set up as an 18-minute jam-style format. The top two runs for each rider counted towards their final score.
“I had to battle not only other competitors, but also the elements – it started to rain just as I started one of my runs and huge gusts of wind kept me from doing my big tricks,” said
Cranmer.
“It was an honor to share the podium with those guys who I’ve looked up to, and I’m happy to bring a medal home for Monster Energy.” After he progressed strong through his heat, Cranmer went to work in the final. After sketching out on his first run he improved consistently from there, needing strong runs near the end to lock down a podium spot. His top runs were full of smooth and
tech tricks including a 720 over the big center obstacle, a backflip tailwhip, tailwhip flair, and big 360 transfers all over the course. The scores of 35 and 37 (combined 72) were enough for the bronze.
Cranmer burst onto the BMX scene as a very young pro a decade ago and has been a contest podium mainstay ever since. He now has seven X Games medals (including three golds), and is consistently in the top of the field at the Dew Tour events.
