FISE MONTPELLIER 2023, THE ACTION SPORTS EVENT IS BACK FROM MAY 17 TO 21, 2023

As is tradition during the week of Ascension, the city of Montpellier will vibrate to the rhythm of the world’s largest urban sports festival. From May 17 to 21, 2023, nearly 600,000 passionate spectators will converge on the banks of the River Lez in the Occitan city for the FISE, the 3rd largest free sports event in France.

Some 2000 professional and amateur athletes, 7 sports, 14 disciplines, 6 World Cup contests and high ranking competitions... The numbers are quite impressive and position the festival as a major event in the international sports calendar.

Nearly a year before the Olympic Games in France, two key FISE competitions, the 2023 UCI BMX

Freestyle Park World Cup and the WDSF Breaking for Gold World Series, will be closely watched.

5 DAYS OF TOP INTERNATIONAL COMPETITIONS

In this decisive year, almost a year before the Olympics, attention will be focused on the Breaking Competition, which will be part of the 2024 Olympic calendar for the first time in its history. Included in the FISE in 2019, the Breaking will bring together in Montpellier the most talented B-girls and B-boys of their generation on a WDSF Breaking for Gold World Series stage. A first-class competition that will give an overview of the medal hopes a year before Paris 2024.

There's more... The FISE 2023 will host the 2nd 2023 UCI BMX Freestyle Park World Cup stage of the season. Another crucial competition since the points aggregated on this event will count for the qualification to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games (2nd Olympiad for the discipline).

4 other major international sporting events will be held in Montpellier this year: a stage of the UCI BMX Freestyle World Cup Flatland format, a stage of the WS Freestyle Roller World Cup and 2 stages of the FIG Parkour World Cup (Freestyle and Speed Run). That's 6 World Cup stages (or equivalent) in 4 different sports, proving the legitimacy of FISE to the different international sports federations.

Also planned are various contests in BMX Street, Skateboard Street and Scooter Freestyle Park, as well as spectacular night shows on the impressive Spine Ramp located in front of the Town Hall, in BMX, Roller and Scooter.

As FISE is a showcase for all urban sports, the Bike Life, the cycling phenomenon that consists of riding on the back wheel, will be present during the festival. This year, the Bike Trial will also be back, a spectacular discipline that consists in overcoming obstacles with a bike. Stability, control and speed will be key!

MAY 17-19, 2023: URBAN SPORTS SUMMIT: SHAPING THE FUTURE OF URBAN SPORTS

Building on the success of its first editions in 2019 in Montpellier and Chengdu, the Urban Sport Summit organized by FISE, will once again bring together international urban sports experts and key decision-makers in sport business for three days of conferences and workshops to learn & share into the scope of urban sports.

BMX Freestyle Park, Skateboarding and Breaking disciplines are already developing for Paris 2024 and bringing a whole ecosystem with them. FISE is thus an opportunity for these still relatively confidential sports to show the world their unique values that animate and unite communities of enthusiasts.

This year, the Urban Sports Summit panel discussions will bring together a host of prestigious guests such as Morinari Watanabe, President of the International Gymnastics Federation, Kit McConnell, International Olympic Committee Sports Director, Marco Maria Scolaris, President of the International Federation of Sport Climbing, Jose Antonio Perez Priego, President of the International Waterski and Wakeboard Federation and Sabatino Aracu, President of Worldskate.

A RESPONSIBLE EVENT

For Hurricane Group, creator and organizer of FISE, environmental issues are a priority. The group is working to limit the impact of transport during the event and is setting up waste sorting and recycling. In order to promote reparability, reuse and recycling of sports equipment and everyday items, FISE Montpellier relies on associations and private and public actors to set up a circular economy. Inclusion is also a priority, including accessibility issues for people with disabilities, as well as respect for the gender, nationality and level of each athlete, as well as civility on the festival site.

FISE Montpellier intends to obtain the ISO 20121 certification of the responsible management standard for the events sector by 2024.

In order to promote alternative disciplines and develop communities of riders, while encouraging young people to practice, all the events and competitions offered at FISE Montpellier have always been free and open to all.
