Unfortunately we didn't see much of this year's flatland contest at the FISE. The flatland crew had their own platform built up which wasn't massive and a bit wobbly but you couldn't tell so when it mattered. One of the highlights that I did get to witness was a performance of
Mike Spinner in Pro Flat qualifying. No front brake, no pegs, no freecoaster, just his regular street bike.
When I checked in with him before the contest what disciplines he wanted to ride he replied with street and flatland. I asked him to repeat that again and yes, he did say flatland. The American Mirraco rider said he had been riding loads of flatland so I was curious to see his run, and so were others. Spinner did receive support from pretty much everyone as he left the course. What the hell did he do?
Whoppers, 180 - fakie stuff, toejam tailwhips, backwards manuals, stuff like that. Taking street to flatland (or is he taking flatland to the streets?). He finished 13th out of 16 riders in Pro flat. Could have been worse.
I briefly asked
Alex Jumelin how the flatland contest went and he replied with a "Really good". I trust his opinion. Let's move on to the results now.
Me out.
