Having USA PRO's coming over for a contest in Holland is not a yearly thing. In fact it was the Worlds in 1997 since the top of the PRO's were in the country of hookers, beers and weed. This didn't impress the Dutch scene cause I saw 2 empty stands on one site of the arena on Saturday Pro day but who cares, the ones that were there enjoyed it and the ones that missed it will regret it for the rest of their BMX lives.
Soulcycle did a good job with hiring the Worlds Cologne course this year so the set up was super, smooth ramps, 2 big trailers as platforms/subboxes, nice spine with subrail, spine with a big block as wall, ramps and wedges all over the place.
Drinks and food were available at the site and even when it was indoors, the outdoor bar was a nice place to hang out in the sun. Micha did an excellent job announsing the whole event and thanks to Dave to the Resque for cleaning the floor again!
I didn't see the Expert class & Master class so for results check the www.homemadejam.nl site, some of my teamriders made the finals but most of all they had a good time in Amsterdam riding on good ramps in a nice atmosphere.
PRO CLASS was filled with 21 riders from the USA, UK, Germany, Belgium and even HOLLAND! Yes HOLLAND is having some good riders and 3 made the finals: Barry Kohne, Daniel Wizz and Mark "FOX" Vos, they tried their best to kick out the Americans in the battles but didn't exceed but they were close this time.
Mark Fox was battling against his hero VanHoman and almost beat him with his barspin to subrail to barspin of and huge wallrides but VAN is not just a rider, he is VAN the MAN and tailwhipped his way to the next round kicking out his biggest fan Mark Fox but Mark had the day of his life!
The only Europeans that were in the top 8 were Mark König from Germany (HARO), Sebastian Keep UK (Hoffman Bikes) and Hannu Cools Belgium (WeThePeople) and the rest were PRO's from the USA. Mark König on the 8th place riding smoother than I ever saw before, in front of him Matt Beringer with his famous Candy Bar Wallrides, Flip to sprockets and more crazyness, didn't see the Heelclicker and I think that costed him the first place....
Shawn Arata riding for FBM was having a good time in Amsterdam, great jumping skills over the spine but that didn't bring him further than 6th place. Van Homan got 5th place, it seemed that he was a bit tired after all the battles so his final run wasn't as good as his qualifier or first runs.
Sebastian Keep is the second European in 4th place with huge 360's also opposites and tailwhips just didn't make him win from the best European rider in this contest: Hannu Cools.
Hannu ruled the place with "turndown to manual the truck to tabletop in" and lots of Icepick stuff, Hannu is riding like a beast and finally made it in the top 3, he deserved it. The Corey Martinez and Mike Aitken show was the best ever in our crazy country, these guys were having a long day rinding but pulled of a lot of stunts in the finals.
Corey Marinez (Federal) grinded the whole deck of the truck, wall to 180 fakie, oldschool one handers with fakie landing over the spine etc etc, I thought he got first place concerning only that final run but Mike Aitken (FIT) won this Homemadejam and added a lot of new fans to his fanlist.
In the battles he did a big 180 Fakie of the trailer deck crashing 4 times and pulled it the 5th time, that was the trick of the day according to me but in finals he showed the smoothest style in BMX Freestyle and even tried to footplant the big box in the middle of the course but never pulled it but who cared:
MIKE AITKEN IS THE WINNER OF THE HOMEMADEJAM IN AMSTERDAM!!!
This Homemadejam was the best streetcomp ever in the Netherlands, hope we will see bigger audience in 2005!
