WHISTLER, Canada (August, 2005) - Ryan Nyquist, 4 time X-Games gold medalist takes first with a stunning last run performance at Red Bull Elevation while James Foster makes history landing the first ever triple tail-whip!
Red Bull Elevation was developed in partnership with BMX icon
Jay Miron as the most innovative and challenging dirt jumping contest of its kind.
“I knew that partnering up with Red Bull would mean creating the best dirt jump contest ever. I’m blown away and wasn’t expecting it to be this good. It totally surpassed my expectations.â€? says Miron.
The revolutionary course design included more than 140 truck loads of specially farmed customized dirt with three line options incorporating up to 17 sets which allowed riders to hit up to eight jumps. The course was built four weeks in advance to ensure the jumps could settle and be re-shaped for the best possible rider conditions.
In a dramatic finish, sitting in 6th place going into the final round,
Ryan Nyquist pulled off one of the most amazing runs starting with a 360, X-up over the lower set, followed by a truck driver, a 720, an x-up back flip, and ending with a bar spin back flip in the heart of Whistler village.
“We’ve never had a contest like this. We’ve never been treated so good and never had an event that was so rider-oriented. It definitely blew me away and set the bar for other events.â€? said Nyquist.
Red Bull athlete
Corey Bohan, fresh off his X-Games gold medal once again put together a stellar performance. Corey stuck his first two runs flawlessly with tricks including a back flip over the 30-foot set and one of the biggest front flips ever seen.
Fellow Australian
Luke Parslow launched his way onto the podium with his huge turndown back flips and heart-stopping front flips that were amongst two of the biggest tricks of the weekend.
The ever consistent
Chris Doyle took fourth with a great display of technical tricks and nineteen year-old
James Foster secured fifth place and stole the show with the first-ever triple tail-whip. The crowd of 10,000 strong erupted as Foster was mobbed by fellow riders.
Moments later, Foster grabbed a well-deserved first place in the best trick contest landing the second-ever triple tail-whip even smoother than the first.
“James Foster threw it down. I’m so stocked for that kidâ€? says Bohan of Foster’s tail-whip.
