more complicated in the not to distant future. At the moment its not that much different to just doing the T's and stickers. You just use what means you have to produce what you can, this process will gradually change as we continue to grow.
Savakas is going the ECO way. Any specific reason for this? Is it how you feel or is it what the people want?
Savakas: First and foremost, we want to make a desirable product that we are happy with. The Eco range actually came secondary to this idea. The products in this range are what we have always wanted to produce garment-wise regardless of how they are sourced. However, i believe that ethically working to the best of your means, in relation to anything is an asset. It would be near on impossible with our resources to produce everything in this vein. It would definitely be something off interest in the future. There's an ideal, and then there's a reality, then there's a medium.
Savakas has a BMX background, does that mean you're aiming for BMX shops to sell your products?
Savakas: It does have roots in BMX, we are BMXers. Thats completely up to BMX shops. To be honest with the margins involved in the BMX Market as they are, With our resources, We would struggle to produce a quality product, at a competitive price, other than basic T shirts. We do stock several Core BMX stores, and would be interested in stocking more.
Who distributes your brand internationally?
Savakas: Nobody. However, we are available in the States through Wasted Youth, and in France through Alternatif Shop and Vingt Pouces.
Who all are representing Savakas out there at the moment?
Savakas: This is something Imo really psyched on. The team is made up of interesting, multi talented/faceted, people, who believe in what they do, and they don't just ride. That is so important to Savakas. Everybody is really unique. There is enough BMX brands who can give people the most ground breaking riding, updated constantly through various mediums, which is great, and we are obviously not adverse to this; however, Savakas is not that, its slightly more character concentrated. The aim is to involve a collective of creative, interesting and inspiring people. Two great examples of this, are Benson and his work with Albion, and Angie and her work with Yeah Zine, and towards representing females positively in BMX(campaigning for girls class at x Games etc), but all the 'team' are remarkable at what they do.
Any plans with the team coming up?
Savakas: It would be of interest to maybe do a trip some time, or maybe another project, we will have to see how things pan out.
You mentioned that you're working on a new site. When can people expect that to go live?
Savakas: The site, a long with all the new products will be with you in about two to three weeks.
For now, where can they check out the Savakas clothing?
Savakas: On the site when it goes live, the blog is constantly updated with team, product news, and other things of interest to us. We have just moved the blog to .....(the old blog is still available in the links). We also have a facebook, with updates and info etc.
Thanks to all involved, and everybody who has supported us.
