Is that an open video/photo competition or do the teams battle eachother?
Andy Zeiss: Yeah, the teams battle each other. Basically 4 Vans teams (UK, Germany, France and Europe) will travel across Europe to collect footage. That footage of 9 days of traveling will need to be edited on one day to get screened on June 6th at the party of the Let it Ride bowl event. So it will be only those 4 filmers joining the teams.
Explain the place where the Let It Ride Tour/competition comes together. Where are things happening on 6-6-1966?
Andy Zeiss: Haha, to be honest - that was a coincidence. When we set the date for the event we were only looking at it like June 6th. But when we first wrote the date like 6.6. we were like... wait a minute. haha so it just proves once again how cool it will be you know. haha
So it's at the Bowl in Kortrijk, right? Is that also where the videos will be shown?
Andy Zeiss: We wanted to do a bowl event as the final event. Bowls and pools are where it all started back in the late 70's and we wanted to adapt that idea to today's riding. Plus the fact that bowl riding is such amazing to watch when the right people are riding it too. We were researching a lot of bowls in Europe and decided for Kortrijk, Belgium. In my eyes it has all the crazy lines and options, it´s smooth and the scenery is very nice too. Also the locals there are awesome to work with and very supportive. The videos and the photo art expo will be shown in a youthclub close to the bowl at night. After the bowl event is done everyone will move to the club to witness what all teams collected. There the audience will vote for the best edit and best photo image. And after that - we will party like there is no tomorrow! haha
There might be no tomorrow after that!
Andy Zeiss: haha, who knows?!
Name a few of the big time riders that will be there?
Andy Zeiss: Big time riders huh? Well there will be tons of riders as it's an open pro contest. But speaking for Vans there will be Hennon, Webb, Hawk, Morrow, Hoffmann, Aller, Kalkoff, Valentino, Keep, Wicke, Priest, Conry, Smith, etc. I heard that riders like Lantschner, Miller, Layos, Lombard, Cools Brothers and others are also attending.
Is it an open contest, or invite only?
Andy Zeiss: It's open but we need to keep an eye on a limited attendence due to the schedule. But it should be ok - we planned to have something like 60 riders maybe.
Should riders contact someone before they go there to sign up or should they take the risk of going to Belgium and sign up while they're there?
Andy Zeiss: They can always send me an email, haha. But hey, we won't send anybody home and telliing them that they can't ride, thats not bmx! if it turns out to be 80 riders, fine too and we make it happen. But that's why we only have a pro class.
Do you have an idea of where the TM's take their team the week prior to the Let It Ride comp in Belgium?
Andy Zeiss: Roughly yes - but as you can imagine the TM´s won't tell all the spots so no one can sabotage them, haha. Jon Taylor is taking the UK team all across France I heard, Kang in France is heading south France and Italy maybe, Steffi in Germany is taking the boys to northern Germany and Denmark and I am thinnking about south France and Spain. A lot of milage for all of us! Everyone just wants to make sure we ride new and fresh stuff for some new adventures and unique footage and clips.
What team is going to show up in Belgium late you think?
Andy Zeiss: Probably me and the EU team, haha.
Is there any way people can find out more about the project online?
Andy Zeiss: yeah - on FATBMX of course! Depending on the wireless availability everywhere we go we update everyone about everything on Fatbmx.
I'll believe that when I see it! haha.
Andy Zeiss: Haha, yeah - I know I slacked in the past but I promise this time. (fingers crossed)
Anything else Andy?
Andy Zeiss: Just would like to welcome everyone over to Kortrijk on June 6th, with bike or without. Keep and eye out for more info on our media partners channels, Ride UK, Mpora, Freedombmx, Soul Bmx, Props and of course FA(s)TBMX.com. Wild and fun times ahead with some kick ass bowl riding!
