The 2007 NBL season has been one of the best NBL title chases in history. With a slew of great finishes from multiple riders throughout the season, the NBL title would be decided by the outcome of the main event. Cristian Becerine and Kyle Bennett went into the Grands just 2 points apart and it would come down to which of these two riders finished up better in the main event. 2006 NBL Pro #1 Donny Robinson still had a shot at the title as well, so it was going to be a all out battle for one rider to walk away with the NBL #1 Pro plate. This was by far the most anticipated event of the 2007 NBL season and the Double A Marketing Pros were up for the chance to win a #1 title. Here is how they finished up at the NBL Grands:

Kyle Bennett may just be the best Pro rider in BMX right now. After missing the start of the 2007 Season after having major surgery on his knee, Kyle came back in April in a big way, with some impressive results, including a slew of wins. 

Union Cycliste International is pleased to announce that for the season 2007/2008, the UCI will introduce and adopt the UCI random start gate for all UCI events including the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup, the 2008 UCI BMX World Championships and the 2008 Olympic Games. After years of development, and a very successful test event held on the Olympic BMX track in Beijing China in early August 2007, the UCI has taken the decision to introduce the random gate system without further delays.

As many of you may already know, Tara Llanes crashed racing at the Jeep King of the Mountain finale in Beaver Creek (Vail area), Colorado. Tara was airlifted to Denver Health Hospital where she underwent 7 hours of surgery to correct massive trauma in her lower back. In addition, Tara also has a C-7 fracture, but was deemed stable prior going into surgery. Tara once again made it through another surgery and is now breathing on her own and able to communicate with friends and family. Unfortunately at this time she has no feeling below her waist, a symptom she suffered as a result of her crash.

It's been a while since I'd visited a Grand Prix because this summer there was so much BMX stuff going on. After the Eurobike trade show in Germany I drove 7 hours straight back home and swung by the track in Lierop on Saturday evening where everything was set up for the last Grand Prix of the season. Sunday came and thousands (36.000) of MX fans made it to the track mainly to see who was going to win the 2007 MX1 title. You see Josh Coppins had won 10 rounds, had a lead of 107 points but injured his shoulder and saw his GP lead disappear.

With Grands right around the corner, many are gearing up for one last solid effort to put their team at the top of the standings. Last year Dan's Competition ran away with the win for the National Team and likewise for HBR in Team NBL, but can they do it again? After the results from the Keystone National in Pottstown, Dan's continues to lead the chase but Felt/Extreme Sports/HBR will have a shot at the title if things go their way at the Grands. HBR is sitting behind the powerful RADD Racing team and the two will go head-to-head in Louisville.

The National Bicycle League is ready to host the 30th running of the NBL Grand National and the stage is set for a thrilling end to the 2007 season. The NBL Elite series classes will race their way into the history books on Saturday afternoon during the Elite Spectacular and the NBL will present more than $40,000 in purses. The ‘pumped-up’ show starts at 5pm on Saturday afternoon with special music, intense racing, the Intense ‘Build-A-Bike’ contest, and the BAWLS BMX Blowout presentations. Went to Sheep Hills in the morning. Took my BMX bike & mountain bike. I rode with Greg Hill a bit before others showed up. Later, the guys from Haro showed up & did a photo shoot with me for a Haro ad. I mainly rode my mountain bike. I did pretty much everything on it, even flips! I'm going to be in a Haro mountain bike ad. Cool. Then rode my BMX bike & did all the same stuff. Was a good day! Came home & chilled it & then did sprints up the Edwards hill by my house. Then came home & went to the gym & got back at midnight. Ahh, a day full of goodness.

Looking Back Now
I think I may have been one of the first riders to flip a mountain bike. This was well over a decade ago, back in the fall of 1994.

The Olympic track was adjusted a little bit before the UCI Supercross round 2 started earlier this week. It was a new style Helltrack and not everyone liked it. Those who like speed and big jumps loved it and so did the people who watched the event from the stands. The track is amazing and the gate drops randomly which eliminates sling shot starts or any other false ways of getting out of the gate fast.

UCI is pleased to announce the 2008 permanent career numbers for Elite Men and Elite Women. Please see attachment or click on the link below to view the current list of numbers. These numbers must be used at all international BMX events worldwide. Starting with the season 2006-2007 (from 1 August 2006), the UCI introduced a permanent number system for Elite Men & Elite Women. With this system, riders can choose a “career number”, which they have the exclusive right to use for their entire Elite class career.
