2005 was a year to forget as far as riding my BMX bike goes. I only rode around a BMX track 3 times and that was it. In January I borrowed Robert de Wilde’s bike at the Bellflower track and when I was ready to jump the table top I popped out the shoulder and had to call it quits.
Sure, I took a bit of a risk riding as my shoulder had popped out the week before. I wasn’t sure though but the track looked too much fun to stay on the sideline during the early morning practice session with Afro Bob.
After that, I went to San Fran to ride a stadium race and popped it out again. After that I took it easy and made a decision to not ride until it got fixed. In the meantime I did go snowboarding though but it just wasn’t the same. Injuries suck and it’s hard to sit back and not being able to do what you really want to do.
Still, I believe that taking risks in life is good. It’s a challenge to learn something new or go somewhere you haven’t gone before. It divides winners from people settling for 4th place or a comfortable tenth. Not that I consider myself a winner but I like to take some risks left and right, always have, always will. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose and 2005 was a year I had to pay the price, and I accept that. 2006 will be a new year full of challenges whether it be getting back on the 20 inch or making ends meet being self employed. Life is exciting and by taking an extra step you might get where you really want to be. Go for it!
