expect non-stop excitement and plenty of successes from the Monster team. Visit monsterenergy.com for a complete list of Monster Energy’s competing athletes or see attached PDF.
Competition Highlights Include:
* Jamie Bestwick will be back at X, defending his record fourth consecutive gold medal in BMX Vert. His domination in BMX Vert is inarguable with his seven X Games gold medals—the Monster Energy rider will be looking to repeat success at X 17.
* In Rally, annual threat Ken Block and BMX legend Dave Mirra will both be competing in Rally Car Racing and RallyCross, an event that sees racers battling side by side on the streets—expect non-stop action.
* Jake Brown, who’s won Skateboarding Big Air for the last two years straight, will be back to defend in the event. Brown gained worldwide fame three years ago when he memorably slammed hard on the quarterpipe after landing a 720 over the gap. His comeback and Golds over the last few years have made for one of X Games’ most inspirational stories.
* In Skateboarding Street, Chris Cole and Shane O’Neill represent Monster Energy as they battle for the podium. Cole has won three X Games Golds, has been a Street League favorite for the 2011 tour holding second place overall, and has won Thrasher Magazine Skater of the Year twice. O’Neill exploded onto the skate scene over the past year, slaughtering the Street League contests and coming to the X Games as one of the favorite skateboarders.
* Monster Energy’s Nate Adams will look to follow up last year’s Silver in Speed Style and Bronze in Moto X Freestyle—his trophy case is already filled with 10 X Games medals. In Moto X Freestyle, Andre Villa will join him. The very young Norwegian is coming in hot to X 17 with four podiums in the last year, including two wins at X-Fighters.
* Pierre Luc Gagnon (PLG), last year’s Gold Medalist in skateboard Vert (and Vert Best Trick), will be back to defend. He’s the only skateboarder that has ever won X Vert three times in a row—will this year be his fourth?
For the first time, X Games will take place exclusively in downtown L.A. at a variety of unique venues that have been custom-tailored for the event. More than 200 athletes will put their game faces on and compete around the Nokia Theatre, L.A. Live, and the Staples Center.
