Monster Energy congratulates team rider Dakota Roche on his bronze medal in BMX Freestyle Park today at X Games 17. It's the first X Games medal for the young, well-respected rider who hails from Huntington Beach, California. "I was beyond stoked to make it to the finals, let alone make the podium," exclaimed
Roche immediately after the event.
"Thanks to all my great sponsors for the support. Getting the bronze feels great!" It wasn't all smooth sailing for Roche today, he had a bit of a scare in his early qualifying round, right before the finals. He sketched out and took the corner of the big ledge to the chest, a fall that left his chest bloody and with an undoubtedly bruised sternum.
None-the-less Roche progressed to the finals, where he was back and looking strong again. He absolutely cooked around this year's street course, a set-up that allowed plenty of creative options for all the riders. He threw down some very
technical tricks and really muscled his way through his spin variations maintaining a smooth flow throughout. A big highlight was his signature 540 to fakie, which he handled over the big gap in the middle of course.
