This came as a bit of a surprise but you can only put so much water with the wine. Compromises have to end somewhere and with the sake of BMX in mind, team McCoy pulled out of the Dew Tour. Read his statement below.
This note is to inform you that McCoy Productions and our staff and judges will not be serving as the Dew Tour BMX Sport Organizer for 2013.
Though they are no longer with the tour, we would like to thank Wade Martin and Kevin Monaghan, whom we have worked with on over 40 major NBC events, beginning with the '99 Gravity Games. We would also like to thank the NBC live production crew, Murphy Productions and many others that contributed to the events over the years.
Last year there were significant changes to the tour, as it transitioned from a series with open qualifiers and year-end prize money, to one of stand-alone events with a larger focus on partner activation and concerts. We pushed for and embraced the added disciplines and changes to the look and feel of the events. We also pushed to remedy issues many of you expressed concern about, but there was difficulty finding common ground with the tour in areas such as purse breakdown, formats and field sizes.
Alli Sports recently informed us of their plan to take many of the BMX sport organizer responsibilities in-house. Serving as sport organizer included the important role of athlete liaison - essentially bridging the gap between the desires of TV and event sponsors, and the riders that make this all possible. While give and take was a part of the process, we stand by the philosophy that what is best for the riders will make for the best event as a whole. We will continue that philosophy with future endeavors moving forward.
A huge thanks to all of you that have supported the many comps we've run. We look forward to more good times ahead.
