For the first time, it can now be revealed that each of the 10 category winners plus the overall winner will be unveiled in a grand ceremony in the city of Hong Kong. With its iconic skyline and burgeoning cultural scene, the buzzing city offers the perfect backdrop and starting point for the first exhibition — and provides even more incentive to take part! The top 50 images (the top 5 images in each of the 10 categories) will then travel around the world's capitals and metropolitan hubs as a unique and stand-alone night-time photo exhibition. More details will be announced on redbullillume.com in the coming months. “Red Bull Illume is a fantastic project and gives photographers the chance to show their talent to the entire world!” says Angélique De Weerd, art director at Menzo magazine and member of the Red Bull Illume judging panel.
To date, thousands of images have been submitted from all over the world. However, organizers are keen to ensure that great images are not left sitting idle in laptops and are encouraging all photographers to sift through their photo albums for any overlooked images. There are nearly six weeks till
submissions close so there is still plenty of time to head out over the weekend and capture that winning shot! The contest consists of 10 categories: lifestyle, playground, energy, spirit, close up, wings, sequence, new creativity, experimental and illumination. A team of judges — photo editors from prominent international publications — will select 50 finalist images, including 10 category winners and the overall winner.
